Aircraft noise in Pimlico?

Jovi001 · 07/08/2024 10:01

Hi everyone,

I am about to exchange on a property in London located in Pimlico.

Yesterday when going around the area, I noticed many airplanes flying above the neighbourhood (almost one every minute).

It looks like they are landing in Heathrow and there is a flight bath going through Battersea and therefore are frequently flying very close.

I would be grateful for any insights from people who lived or are living in that area and if noise is bearable or not on a daily basis.

Many thanks in advance

What is your 'AIBU?' question?

Are you being unreasonable not to expect occasional aircraft noise in a big city with more than one airport?
Are you being unreasonable to post here rather than in a more relevant section (like 'Chat' or 'London' - see https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/london ) ?

I voted yes YABU based on both of the above.

I agree with everything @Longtimelurkerfinallyposts said

What is your AIBU , @Jovi001 ?!

There's nowhere in London where you won't get aircraft noise. There is an airport in the city, Heathrow on the edge of London and three more London-serving airports close by.

You are moving to the centre of a massive capital city. It will not be quiet. HTH.

I used to live in Battersea and then Wandsworth Town..(used to see Concorde, it was that long ago 😂).

Plane noise is the least of the noise you will experience - if you are concerned about plane noise, may I suggest city living isn't for you??

Wanna flight bath.

WingSluts · 07/08/2024 11:43

Maybe Pimlico isn't for you OP. Try Hounslow or Feltham.

Yes they have a very similar vibe 😂

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/08/2024 11:52

i am curious how you didn’t notice this when you viewed the property, for that YABU

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/08/2024 12:13

You are definitely BU to wait until the point of exchange to think about this.

Yes, we’ e just been severely impacted financially and emotionally by people messing about with a house purchase.

bruffin · 07/08/2024 12:15

😂 Or Cranford, as long as you're not too tall.....🛬

GogAndMagog · 07/08/2024 12:34

Check out the Flight Radar app. That'll show you every plane in the world and where it is from and going to.

twilightcafe · 07/08/2024 12:34

I visit Pimlico a lot (hello, Capital Car Boot!). Yes - there is a lot of plane noise.

PeaOKnee · 07/08/2024 12:42

Planes aren't that much of a problem. Police cars racing down the Embankment however are pretty relentless. Worth bearing in mind if your new place is nearer the river

MonsteraMama · 07/08/2024 12:43

Bit late to be worrying about it now!

Yes there will be aircraft noise. Yes it will be daily, every day, all year. There are lots of planes.

You get used to it though! Took me months to be able to sleep without listening to "city ambience" when I moved back home from London.

PortiasBiscuit · 07/08/2024 12:44

She asked a reasonable question, not sure why you all being so bitchy in your responses.

WestminsterWanderer · 07/08/2024 12:46

I live in Westminster- the other side of Vauxhall Bridge Road- near Tate Britain
There are very few planes (unlike Wandsworth/Putney where I work)

I have flown directly over my flat when landing at LHR once in over 50 landings since I moved in - it is more usual to be slightly further across when landing if coming in that way.

There are a lot of helicopters but it is variable. They land at Battersea , Horseguards and Buckingham Palace. Loads less since the Queen died and no royals live in London any longer but they still fly in the night before any event.

If there are any protests in Parliament Square or Royal events then the news helicopters are up and going round in circles.

I rarely hear them inside the flat and you get to ignore them outside. Honestly think I have only looked up due to plane noise/seen a plane once (other than the royal flybys) and that was sitting outside a pub near Vauxhall Bridge.
