To wake DH because there’s a mosquito in the room?

(Lighthearted) I probably am, but it drinks my blood and keeps me from sleeping with this alarming ‘bzzzzz’ close to my head. Would prefer to switch the lights on, catch it, and have an undisturbed sleep thereafter, but then, DH is sleeping peacefully right now 😟

I am in the exact same situation although I’m not sure what insect it is! I’ve not woken DH but the buzzing is driving me crazy.

suburberphobe · 06/08/2024 23:39

Goodness. Let the poor man sleep.

Just get some mosquito repellent with DEET.

cos due to climate change, malarial mosquitos will be here soon

Motherbear44 · 06/08/2024 23:42

But if you don’t put the light on and catch the blooming thing, your DH could get bitten and then not get back to sleep. I vote to hunt down the mozzie.

Cinai2 · 06/08/2024 23:43

I considered using mosquito repellent, but then I might make my poor DH the main target 😆

Get a Zapper

ImustLearn2Cook · 07/08/2024 02:10

Can you use a torch or light from your phone or put on a hall light without waking dh? Then you can hunt down that pesky mosquito. 🦟

As a person who ends up with welts from bites, turn on the lights and smash the damn thing.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/08/2024 05:23

Definitely wake him...

Unless you are 100% certain it's going to bite him, not you, in which case, leave it.

I wake my DP. They never bite him, always me, and I end up with huge angry welts that blister and sometimes go nasty and take ages to heal (yay diabetes).

In my defence, I am not actually able to thunder around the bedroom trying to catch a 5mm biting twatfly, and he is (he also saves me from wasps and hornets, who are all determined to get in bed with me! I swear its the diabetes, they can smell me, I am their giant sugary queen or something!)

Useruserdoubleuser · 07/08/2024 05:28

No way to sleep with one yeeping in your ear and waiting for a bite.

We have a few of those zap bats but I recently got a new one which is USB rechargeable and you can put it on a stand with charge in and built in UV light and they just murder themselves on it. It’s next level and brilliant. I keep one next to the bed and it actually works. I just hear EEEEEEEEEEE BANG.

Tbh I wouldn’t wake him up. Just deet the hell around you. Stay under the covers and get your prep on tomorrow. As much as I love the zapper and the tennis bat of doom, we have a vortex thing which is totally silent, it has a UV light then they get sucked into sticky paper. It’s brilliant. And you can see them the next day which is very satisfying. Highly recommend any/all of the above solutions. Worst case just get a damp towel and smash the damn thing.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/08/2024 13:57

Vortex thingy? UV light zapper on a stand? Where do I get these magical devices please?

Oooooo can you share? Can you pack it for holidays?

CalamityClam · 07/08/2024 14:02

@costahotchocolatesaremyweakness what is this magic?!

ACynicalDad · 07/08/2024 14:07

I've been woken for this many times, didn't appreciate it, but that's life.

StamppotAndGravy · 07/08/2024 14:15

We got a mosquito net. If you know they can't hurt you the whine is merely irritating rather than panic inducing

Seriously, we need to know!

LoveSkaMusic · 07/08/2024 14:53

Just wait for it to get right near you and then slap it out of existence. No need to turn the light on, just use your natural killer instinct!

Cinai2 · 07/08/2024 15:48

Well, the mosquito survived the night and DH got his sleep. I’ll try to go on the hunt tonight before we go to bed, because I’m definitely not skilled enough to hunt in the dark or with a torch.
