To think this duty of care is awful (trigger warning TFMR)

On Friday I received the results of the combined screening that came back 1:2 and 1:3 for T21 and T18. In that appointment it was quite a shock and I called the PA later on to ask her to remind me of the names of the procedures so I could research which I would like to go ahead with. I said there was the NIPT, and the Amniocentesis but also one in the middle of them. She responds ‘one in the middle of WHAT Kate?’. Felt completely humiliated for even asking but it’s quite overwhelming.

I was told I’d hear back late Friday or early Monday morning with an appointment with the consultant who deals with high risk cases, and that it would be a long weekend but any questions would be answered and a plan could be made. I phoned back yesterday at 3pm to ask what the plan was regarding this and again ‘what plan for what Kate’ I explained and she said yes we’ve heard about your case and we’ll call back before 5pm.

Now Tuesday and no further response and I’m too embarrassed to even ring that rude and condescending PA ever again. I’ve now missed the cut off for CVS and a repeat Nuchal measurement scan which they knew I was reaching the deadline for.

I am so annoyed.

With the results being this high, and the NT being the way it is there is a strong possibility of a TFMR and each day is another day that I have to let things grow knowing that it might not be great.

Call and say you'd like to make a complaint and who should you direct it to.

kimchi81 · 06/08/2024 11:22

so this is straightforward

complain . direct to the consultant she works for

Upschittscreek1 · 06/08/2024 12:02

Wow I used to be a PA and that is incredibly unprofessional and rude! if this is private and you are paying deffo complain they should be falling over themselves to look after you x

Numberblock · 06/08/2024 12:48

Well I just called the main line to ask to make a complaint against the lady in question and they transferred me to her so that’s great.

Hope you're ok. That is horrible x

Do you have the name of the consultant who deals with high risk cases? Is the PA his/hers? You need to ring up and make it easier for them to fetch the consultant than not. Be polite but stubborn and don’t put the phone down until you have the information you need. Don’t be fobbed off; you were promised a plan so where is it? As for the pointless PA, if she is rude, she is out of line and you should say so. “Don’t talk down to me, please,” should do it. Then carry on insisting on speaking to the consultant and say you’ll hold.

phone back if they put you through to her ask for the consultant to call you.

when you get the consultant complain and say you want an agreed treatment plan / plan of care discussed and put in place now. Today.

sorry you and going through this and she is being such a cold bitch.
i had similar when my baby was in NiCU and am now getting treatment as apparently i now have ptsd from it (which surprised /shocked me)
