AIBU to take my kids into central Birmingham tomorrow??

I'm supposed to be taking my 2 little boys into Central Birmingham tomorrow. I've been watching the news and keeping an eye on the papers and it all sounds crazy. The Daily Mail article makes it sound so dangerous, but then again, it is the DM. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13711561/britain-riots-shops-close-fears-violence-looting.html

What is it REALLY like in Birmingham at the moment? I feel so ridiculous to be even having to ask this, but is my little family safe going to the Sealife Centre, Cadbury World, and maybe the Bullring?

I’d be surprised if the rioters were at the Sealife Centre or Cadbury world.

I live near the city and haven't heard or seen anything bad. Dd was in on sun night and didn't see anything

No, but obviously we have to get there 🙄

It’s completely fine.

wombat15 · 05/08/2024 23:09

I don't think anything is happening in Birmingham. There were rumors that the EDL were going to turn up and people were getting ready to defend mosques etc but the racists didn't arrive so nothing has happened. They would be outnumbered if they did.

Namenamchange · 05/08/2024 23:10

I wouldn't bother, not worth the risk.

There is no more risk in birmingham than anywhere else.

IridescentShadow · 05/08/2024 23:12

I work there. If anything, it was quieter than normal today in the Centre. Some disturbances tonight several miles out in East Birmingham.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 05/08/2024 23:12

Cadbury world is not near central Birmingham so sure you'll be fine. Check social media before you go

Howdiditgetsobad · 05/08/2024 23:19

Cadburys world isn’t in the city centre. It’s in a quiet little suburb and totally safe. No reason to avoid going!
I live a couple of miles out of the centre of Birmingham and nothing at all untoward has happened anywhere near here. Usual normal day of friendly people going about their business. I can’t imagine the city centre itself being an issue either. It sounds like very isolated incidents in parts of Birmingham that the average person wouldn’t go anywhere near, even on a good day.

I don't disagree with you, but it would make me more stressed knowing what is happening tonight. But i'm am over thinker and might feel different in the morning.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 05/08/2024 23:35

Cadbury World isn't in the centre

And 9 times out of 10 when I go to Birmingham there seems to be some sort of demonstration it seems. I'm not going tomorrow so you should be safe ;)

lingmerth · 05/08/2024 23:58

We were in the city centre today, New St station, Grand Central and the Bullring with our 3 year old granddaughter. Absolutely fine. Busy, youngsters, families, couples all just going about their day.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2024 23:58

I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Turophilic · 06/08/2024 00:00

If you're going to Sea Life Centre, also pop into then IKON gallery two minutes away to ride the singing lift.

You'll be fine, OP.

Thanks everyone 👌
