My DP (27) has been having blood in his urine. It has happened 3 times but has since stopped. I want him to get checked out and I'm worried but he's refusing. Says he has no time and that he MIGHT if it happens again . How can I convince him to get checked?

It's really really dumb not to go.

Uti's are uncommon in healthy men. Blood in urine in a man especially peaks interest/review as you realise, so not attending is a bad plan.

1 in 5 adults with visible blood in urine will be diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Show him the following?

https://www.leedsth.nhs.uk/services/urology/common-urological-conditions/what-should-i-do-if-i-have-blood-in-my-urine/

Check up is pretty simple - test urine for signs infection by dipping a sample then sending to lab - if it's positive for infection that's good - treat it and blood expected to stop. If it's negative for infection he'd likely be referred to urology.

Blood in urine

Find out about blood in urine (pee). It's not usually anything serious, but sometimes it can be, so you must get it checked out by a GP.

Blood in urine is often not visible, so he could think it has stopped but actually it's ongoing.

How can a grown man not understand that if the cause is something serious e.g. cancer, the sooner it is treated the better? This is not a symptom that should ever be ignored.

Lost a friend to aggressive bladder cancer, make him go, book it for him and take him there.

Always baffles me how if a man gets a bog standard cold it's the end of the world but if it's possibly something serious they all out ignore 🤷

I'm your DH. I had some symptoms and put it off. DH guilted me horribly and I did go to the doctor. And it was something serious but treatable. He didn't let it go!

Has he been eating beetroot? It’s very unusual for blood to be in visible in urine unless it’s a lot of blood - but beetroot can resemble blood turning wee red / purple.

I’d be more concerned he had a STD if I was honest OP. You both should get checked for STD’s and also see a doctor. If he won’t go, then tell him you’re going anyway.
