No refund on sale goods

toddlepod · 04/08/2024 14:37

Bought item in New Look sale, tried it on at home, didn't like the fit and took it back. There are no refunds on sales goods so I exchanged and paid another €4 (am in ROI) for another top.

Same thing got home tried it on, took it back and asked if I could have a credit note but they don't do them.

There's nothing there I like so question is, how long can I take to find an exchange I do like, knowing there will be new stock in sooner or later

Or

Cheeky and would this work....
Buy something not in the sale, perhaps a bit dearer so above the previous sale item price and take that back for a refund.

AIBU to try this? Would it work or do New Look have a policy on only refunding the difference... but if they don't do credit notes, how would they deal with the exchange value of the transaction?

Any help from anyone gratefully received!

They would only refund the diffrence of new item pay up to a gift card they do that .

SuzieGlass · 04/08/2024 14:40

Not being able to return sale items for a refund is pretty standard. Why didn’t you just try it on in-store?

Fedupmumofadultsons · 04/08/2024 14:41

And new looks sale stock is usually left over a few seasons so they don't it cluttering up there rails

Winter41 · 04/08/2024 14:43

They would have to refund it it if it was faulty so you could always make it faulty.

StormingNorman · 04/08/2024 14:43

There’s a lesson here…try it on in store!

DreamW3aver · 04/08/2024 14:44

I dont have a new look near me, do they have changing rooms? Seems like it would save a lot of hassle to try things on in the shop

This, you would have saved yourself two trips and all this hassle.

Iwantamarshmallowman · 04/08/2024 14:45

I dont shop in newlook for this very reason. Even when it's not sale and you have a receipt, they are f*cking vile.

toddlepod · 04/08/2024 14:45

A gift card would be just fine! That would be a credit note in effect!

Imagine encouraging op to do that That's like folk who buy things online wear it once send it back tacky behaviour

toddlepod · 04/08/2024 14:47

I don't try things on in any store ... unfortunate sighting of dangly hairy thing on a lady in a changing room gave me the willies...

What other scumbag behaviour do you partake in?

You do know that people like you are the reasons stores are getting more restrictive with returns, don’t you?

I spent a few years in clothing retail....staff can often tell the difference between genuinely faulty items and items which have been purposefully damaged! Not worth it as you'll likely end up having the refund refused.

Accept it as the consequence of buying in the sale and list it on your local buy and sell board as Brand New With Tags

Thank you, that's a good idea. I've not sold anything online before so might dip my toe in the water.

On the other hand, am prepared to write it off by donating to local animal shelter charity shop.

Lesson learned.

Commiserations. I've not had much experience with New Look shopping and probably won't chalk much up now nor ever will though the problem really lies with me, not them. Human nature.

Bit peeved, it's €26 so not BIG money but still money I'd rather have.

Take away is to ask if sale goods can be returned before buying. There are so many stores that do now, it makes for complacency.

I take it on the chin for being dumb.
But still... grrr gnash😀

I've tried on tops in asda and matalan over my own clothes without going to a changing room as asda doesn't have a changing room now and the changing room in matalan was too far away. I did take my jacket off first and had a tshirt on 😆

I think the better expression is criminal behaviour.

The OP should have complained about what was seen in the changing room.

Just buy socks, knickers or tights. That's what I always do.
