I'd ask the passport office just to be safe

this is what it states online.

Replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport
If your passport has been lost or stolen, you must cancel it before applying for a replacement.
If your passport is damaged you must replace it. You may not be able to travel with it.
HM Passport Office will consider your passport damaged if:
you cannot read any of your details
any of the pages are ripped, cut or missing
there are holes, cuts or rips in the cover
the cover is coming away
there are stains on the pages (for example, ink or water damage)

Cancel a lost or stolen passport

What you need to do if your passport has been lost or stolen and you need to travel urgently.

DS’s passport had an adventure in the ocean on the last day of a California holiday. ( He used it when hiring a body board and put it in the pocket of his boardshorts). We spent hours with a hairdryer and iron trying to make it presentable. When we presented our passports the US passport control guy stared at it. Stared at us. Picked it up by one corner and a few grains of sand fell out. Opened the crinkled pages.. We were holding our breath. DS squeaked ‘sorry, it happened yesterday!’ We really thought we wouldn’t be able to travel but eventually he tossed it back and said ‘Get that sorted right away when you are home!’ We have never ket DS forget it.

It isn't the passport office who would make a fuss it is the country you are travelling to. Don't go to Australia!

I dont see how anyone can tell you for sure as it might just depend on the person who looks at it on the day.

If you get a replacement do you pay in full again and lose the unexpired time?

Yes, my 10 year passport accidentally went through the washing machine at 3 years old. I had to get a new passport, full price, whole ten years again. Gutted, it was the only time I’ve ever had one with a flattering photo, the new one makes me look like my nan!

@Sunbird24 I had to replace a passport 9.5 years early (argh!) when I was in the depths of newborn PND and my quite nice photo is now possibly the worst photo in the world, with my hair carefully arranged to hide the fact that DD is actually still on me in the baby carrier.

OP, I think that needs replacing. Sorry!
