I have a day and night in Liverpool planned tomorrow with teen DC en route to the Lake District. I’m now thinking to cancel due to the riots and find a different place to explore.

I have until midnight to cancel the booking.

AIBU to cancel?

YABU - it will be most likely be fine and okay to explore the city centre, docks etc.

YANBU- it would be foolish to visit as tourists in the middle of such unrest

The last time I visited Liverpool was in 2011 when there were riots and we had a great time. We stayed at the Albert Dock.

I’m in Liverpool and it’s still kicking off here. My dd has friends working in the city centre who have been locked down in work and can’t go home after their shifts finished. It’s really unfortunate but I wouldn’t risk going into town tomorrow. It may well have settled down by then but who knows?

They like to riot on a Saturday and then have Sunday off. You'll be fine.

SlothOnARope · 03/08/2024 22:49

I live the other side of the river and definitely wouldn't venture over there tomorrow. Shops were looted, two police officers are in hospital. A lot of the rioting was close to the waterfront and tourist attractions, they had to close some businesses. I reckon there'll be areas cordoned off tomorrow and a sad atmosphere.

Yanbu to cancel. Go to Chester instead.

KungFuDancing · 03/08/2024 22:53

Thanks all. I think it makes sense to cancel but DH seems to think it will be fine. We’re just considering other options.

It sounds like it’s been a horrendous evening- thoughts with all of those caught up in it.

I'm old enough to remember riots back in the1980s...Toxteth I think.

goneveryquiet · 03/08/2024 23:00

I would go there will be no problem

WhiskersPete · 03/08/2024 23:15

I live in Liverpool. It will be fine - they will have thugged themselves out by tomorrow.

StuckintheRutt · 03/08/2024 23:23

As pp said go to Chester!! It's beautiful and there is a lot to do, beautiful building to enjoy , walk around the roman walls.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/08/2024 23:23

I'd go to Chester and take a boat trip
on the river.

oObyeOo · 03/08/2024 23:25

Go to Chester… much nicer city

carly2803 · 03/08/2024 23:28

agree with above- chester is lovely, been a few times on travels. Go on the boats or walk the walls. Much prettier as well!

RespondingToYou · 03/08/2024 23:41

i grew up near Chester and live on the outskirts of Liverpool so I’m going to disagree with @oObyeOo. They’re quite different and attractive for different reasons.
Because of the trouble I’m avoiding Liverpool atm but, if you don’t visit this time, be sure to in the future. It very much deserves the good press it gets on MN.
