to take threadworm medication before a long journey

Going on holiday tomorrow, five hour drive.

Just found 7yo has threadworms.

If we take medication today, are we likely to get upset stomachs? If so, I might delay until after the long drive.

Check instructions leaflet otherwise you're going to have very itchy bums!!

Givemecoffeeplease · 03/08/2024 10:02

No, you won’t get funny tummies. Take the meds, get rid of the worms! 🐛

Don't think it causes upset stomach in most people like worming treatments used to.
Just make sure everyone in the family takes it, and use sudocrem or similar to stop the itching until the medicine kicks in.

Could you take the medication when you've finished your long journey if you're worried?

MouseofCommons · 03/08/2024 10:10

It doesn't cause an upset stomach. The sooner you get it in you the better.

Cheeesus · 03/08/2024 10:12

Take the medication or they’ll be miserable. None of us everyone had an upset stomach, it’s not like dog worming.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/08/2024 10:14

It doesn't upset your stomach. It barely kills off the worms either. Take it now then your in a new environment which will be easier to prevent re infection. Wash your hands before you eat and drink absolutely everything

WellyBellyBoo · 03/08/2024 10:35

We all took it recently without upset stomachs. Take a second dose after 2 weeks to be sure you've got rid and make sure the whole family takes it.

Presumably, you will be stopping for toilet breaks anyway. I wouldn't worry too much as upset stomach is pretty rare with modern meds.

mindutopia · 03/08/2024 11:31

Just take it now, I can’t imagine anything worse than threadworms on holiday.

It does give me some GI discomfort but I have a bowel condition. Doesn’t bother anyone else. No way I’d delay taking it though if needed!

KreedKafer · 03/08/2024 11:36

It doesn’t cause stomach upsets. Take it as soon as possible. If you delay it, that’s another 24 hours in which the worms can lay more eggs which can be transferred all over the place by your child. Kids that age are hopeless with hygiene.

Thanks, we've taken it!
