wondering if I’m in Peri

im extremely tearful and hormonal when I’m on and angry
but I come on so heavily I leak through a tampon and sanitary pad on my first day whucg happened this morning. I came on at 4am and was bleeding through both within 2 hours and by 7pm my period has stopped and I’m not bleeding
but tomorrow I could be bleeding again.
is this peri or just normal ?

I'd speak to your GP. I was prescribed tranaxamic acid which was a game changer and made my periods manageable.

I reckon all bets are off when you're over 40. I've had some weird periods. For a while low iron caused them so worth getting checked. I've started taking starflower oil and seems to be helping but could just be better anyway. I only ever had one awful period, big clots and flooded through my work clothes by the time I got to work, luckily wearing black and could dash into the toilets and then back home to change as only 10 mins away. GP checked some things out but nothing spotted, pardon the pun. I'd check with your GP for peace of mind

I had really heavy periods/flooding. So much so that I became anaemic. I had Tranexemic acid for a while, but then had the mirena coil fitted. It took 6 months to settle down but after that I never had another period again!

Just finished a 14 day bleed primarily due only when wiping. The coil is out.

Ibuprofen lightens the flow.

That sounds exactly like mine started getting, sorry, although my moods were angry and anxious (I've never been an anxious person in my life before).

Went back on the pill, everything (moods and crazy bleeding) has settled down now that I've found a formulation that suits me better. Drospirenone is a progesterone that has fewer mood related side effects than others, apparently.

Apileofballyhoo · 03/08/2024 01:35

Sounds like it, OP. Progesterone is the first hormone to drop so periods can start getting much heavier.
