Sexism prevails on MN

SlidingDoors1 · 01/08/2024 13:13

We currently have two threads that really do show the mentality of Mn

1- A female whose husband doesn't want to go on family camping holidays (is being advised by some to leave him and how abysmal he is because he doesn't want to go camping)

2 - A female whose mother is dying presently (and is being advised by many MNers to go on holiday and leave him to deal with this turmoil alone

Hw strange and double standards

OP posts:

MN forums aren't exactly known for their balanced, level-headed approach to advice.

Both were probably having an affair and deserved to be booted out 😉

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/08/2024 13:18

Some people have different opinions to you shocker! There’s a variety of views on both threads.

No33 · 01/08/2024 13:19

I don't see the correlation between the two?

Might be because your second point makes no sense though

BIWI · 01/08/2024 13:21

I think you need to get out more.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/08/2024 13:24

The majority of people on the camping thread think the OP is being unreasonable to expect her husband to join her if he doesn’t want to. Obviously some people disagree but no thread will ever have 100% of replies saying the same thing.

The OP with the unwell MIL has been told by her DH he thinks she should go, he’s not begging her to stay. Also whilst lots of people are saying go there are also some saying stay.

Neither thread is 100% on either side, plus I don’t really see that the threads have a huge amount of relevance to each other. They are two completely different situations so I really don’t see your point.

Comtesse · 01/08/2024 13:24

Loads of people use MN - not everyone thinks the same - HTH…..

MounjaroUser · 01/08/2024 13:25

In the second instance, her husband told her to go on holiday with their daughter - the MIL was not liked by any of them. The husband wanted to support his brother and respect his mother. There was no need for the OP to comfort him.

GrumpyPanda · 01/08/2024 13:30

They're not "females", they're women. And your language is showing quite clearly where you're coming from. Maybe get back on Reddit?

HarpieDuJour · 01/08/2024 13:36

The use of "Female" as a noun where the correct word is "Woman" tells me that I can pretty much disregard the rest of a post.
It's fine for giraffes, gorillas and fish, but there is a good, easy to spell word for adult human females. We are women.

YouJustDoYou · 01/08/2024 13:37

No.

sixtyten · 01/08/2024 13:38

Have you read all the OP's posts on the second one?

Didimum · 01/08/2024 13:39

Looking at the camping thread, it seems most think OP is being unreasonable.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/08/2024 13:42

'Females' Hmm

It seems you haven't read the threads very well, OP. Plus you seem to be confused about the second one. It's not about the OP's mother. If you want to come and moan about 'females' being sexist, at least get your facts atraight.

This.

OP, you're doing yourself no favours here. Your argument is weak, your facts are wrong and your language is off.

0/10

ghostyslovesheets · 01/08/2024 13:53

I mean you can't even read threads properly because on the second thread her OWN HUSBAND has said she should go - you know, the man with a very unwell mother in hospital - she is the one worrying if she should - he has said 'go and enjoy it' so yeah 0/10 from this female

CurlewKate · 01/08/2024 14:11

@SlidingDoors1 tell us more about this "sexism"...

Purpleskiesabove · 01/08/2024 14:12

Also, if you’d taken the time to fully read my post including the further comments, you’d maybe understand that it’s not just as simple as you’ve stated. There’s no sexism on my behalf; just a woman wanting to be a priority in her DH’s life and wanting him to prioritise her and DC rather than always prioritising his business.

MonsteraMama · 01/08/2024 14:15

Oh no, did you just learn for the first time that "females" are not in fact a hive mind and have lots of different opinions about different situations? Is everything you've been told about "the trouble with females" a lie?

Bless.

C1N1C · 01/08/2024 14:26

We need more men here for a balanced point of view!!!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

Edited

I think the point op is making is we give allowances for women to decide what do but if a man wants to not go on a trip in this instance we demand she ltb. I'm not saying I agree in full as there are mixed answers but I do see the point in what op is saying as I read the mil dying thread and i saw alot of ppl saying go.. and I was thinking wow if that' was her saying it was mum dying and her hubby went away we'd all be up in arms.. I told that op not to go but of course it's up to her at the end of the day.

Yes. Not mardy livestock as the OP implies

PickAChew · 01/08/2024 14:57

Some gotcha, eh, OP?

CremeEggThief · 01/08/2024 15:00

Are you a new poster, OP?

It's not really the done thing to post a TAAT on here.

You have made a bit of a faux pas.

WhichEllie · 01/08/2024 15:03

You’ve not bothered to read the camping thread. The OP has already commented here to set you straight, but the issue is that her husband doesn’t give a damn about her and the children. He just spends all his time working and avoiding them.
