Not an AIBU but posting for traffic. How and when are blood donors informed if their test sample come back positive?

Does anyone know?

Positive for what? (Excuse my ignorance!)

SpikyHatePotato · 31/07/2024 21:46

Presumably for HIV, and whatever else they routinely test blood for?

You've reminded me that there was a trend many years ago that people donated blood in order to find out if the has HIV or whatever. There was a lot of work done to tell people how selfish, thoughtless and downright stupid a thing that this was to do. Thank goodness this kind of thing doesn't happen nowadays.

Before the blood can be used they test for HIV, Syphilis, some forms of Heptatis and sometimes Malaria I think.

I have donated blood but never been informed if I had tested positive or negative for anything. I only get a nice message telling me where my blood has gone.

There's info here https://www.blood.co.uk/the-donation-process/further-information/tests-we-carry-out/

Seen that but it doesn't say when and how positive results will be contacted.
