To feel upset by what my mum did?

I was thinking about what to do during the week this week for my DD(4) half term. Mentioned a bounce/trampoline kind of park near us and told my mum about it. I said ''think I will have to go on the trampoline with her though'' and she looked down at my body with eyebrow raised in a sarcastic way like I'm not too big to go on the trampoline and smirked. Decided now not to go to the trampoline park. Feel upset and embarrassed/

You are not unreasonable.
She sounds horrible.
Has she always put you down like this? (I’m guessing yes).

Stop seeing your mum so much. Stop telling her your plans/sharing about your life. She doesn’t deserve it.

Go to the trampoline park and have some
fun. There will be people of all body shapes there.

Did you say anything? Ask her what she meant by making that face?

JellyWellyBoots · 29/07/2024 22:37

Tell her not to forget to tuck her tits into her socks.

LucjMel · 29/07/2024 22:37

Yes, she does things like this to me a lot to be honest. If I bring it up or say something she just brushes it off as a joke

I am a grandmother and went to a trampoline park with my grandson and had a great time, just go for it.

Mrspepperpotsskirt · 29/07/2024 22:40

That sounds unkind. If it’s unual for your mum to belittle you in that way maybe speak to her about it but I’m wondering if it’s not the first time she’s tried to humiliate you?
It’s not ok to treat anyone in this way, what would you say say to your DD? Can you imagine doing that to her?
Hope you are ok. I’d book that place and enjoy sharing afterwards how much fun you had together there 💐

You're not being fair to your child are you?

Your mum sounds awful but she's not going to change.

Your DD wants you to take her to a trampoline park, so pull your pants up and have a great time.

Tel12 · 29/07/2024 22:44

Ignore her, go to the park, take some pics and show them to her. Oh, and spend less time with your mum.

LucjMel · 29/07/2024 22:45

Thank you. I'll take her. Just fed up of the subtle put downs and digs. She makes me feel bad about myself then makes it seem like a joke and that I shouldn't take it heart but it's hard not too.

When your kid is older, all they will remember is the fun they had that day. And they will remember. Sod your mum, have a great day with your daughter. What's she's doing to you isn't nice. If she has something to say tell her to say it. You don't need to spend time with her if she's hurtful.

You need to spend much less time with her. Just because she's related to you, doesn't mean you have to spend time with someone who makes you feel bad about yourself! Cut right back on contact and if she queries it, just say you're busy. Go trampolining with your little one and have a lovely time 💐

Recommend book: ‘You are not the problem’ by Villuers and McKenna

Go! Enjoy time with your DD. Trust me on this, they grow up so fast you don't want to miss a minute of it.
You do not need anyone who sucks joy from your life so maybe you could put a bit of distance between you and your mum. If she claims something is a joke in future, just say calmly "Well it didn't sound very funny to me" and she'll soon get the message

JabbaTheBeachHut · 29/07/2024 22:56

When your child is older, she'll look back and remember the fun you both had, not what weight/size you were.
