Swimming headphone recommendations

Does anyone wear swimming headphones? I'm trying to get back into a hobby I used to enjoy and think this will help.

I used a swim iPod which I loved. Downside is that the earphones have to sit comfortably in ears under a swim cap which didn't always happen.

That being said it was around 5 years ago now so I'm sure there are better earphone models now.

Definitely helped me get through mile swims!

WetBandits · 28/07/2024 11:45

You know what, in all my years on this earth I had never even imagined that such a thing existed!

Off I go to Amazon! 🤩

Aftershokz do open ear / bone conducting swim headphones

(I haven't used mine yet so can't comment!)

TeaMistress · 28/07/2024 12:04

I would be really interested in this as well. I'm looking to get back into regular swimming. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great

I have these.

They make ALL the difference- time flies when wearing them. Totally overcomes the monotony of lengths!

Sony do a waterproof Walkman headset that's pretty good, you do need to get used to it though because the controls are all on the head and so you have to remember which button on which ear to click on to turn it on, up the volume etc.

You can get Bluetooth ones but it really is not worth doing! As soon as your ears go under water the connection cuts out because Bluetooth can't conduct underwater, and you'd need to have your phone within about 20 mts of the headphones anyway which means leaving it in your bag on the side of the pool.

So get an a waterproof mp3 player which will need to be plugged in to a computer to load songs onto it, and decide if you want a headset all in 1 like the Sony, or a mo3 player with wired headphones that clips onto your swimming goggles or swimsuit strap. Decathlon used to do one, or Amazon do them.

I use these. Listen to Hamilton as I do my lengths!

My brother uses the shokz openswim too and loves them. He's been through so many pairs of swimming headphones too so they must be alright.

Giraffel · 28/07/2024 12:31

He doesn't use the Bluetooth ones though so not sure how well they work with streaming.

londonmummy1966 · 28/07/2024 12:34

Both my dds swim in Shokz Open swim. I've borrowed them occasionally and the sound quality is great (their music choices not so much....)

APMom6 · 28/07/2024 12:34

I use the Shokz open swim and they’re brilliant. I get a full week of 1 hour swims before I need to recharge. Mine are 1.5 yrs old and still work perfectly.

stickthewellyin · 28/07/2024 12:45

How do you actually get things onto the headphones? I'd like to have podcasts or audio books. Is this possible?

Yes - via the laptop

Yes - via the laptop

I think it would also be whichever device you had connected to your Bluetooth.

Do you still count lengths or do you swim for an amount of time, if you don't mind me asking?

I have had the finis duo for about 5 years mow, bit bulky but work great. Going for shokz openswim if these stop working
I have a mixture of musical theatre, ed sheeran, mike and mechanics, script, ragnbone man on mine

MzHz · 28/07/2024 15:58

I use these in an endless pool. They stream from your watch and come with a clip to fix the watch to your head.

although as I’m in a static place, I just put the phone on the side and swim to my sound track.

Never tried them yet out in the wilds of pool or sea, but might just try them in a week or so.

GoldenRetrieverBert · 28/07/2024 18:22

@coodawoodashooda - I do a fixed amount of lengths, but just depends what you prefer. I like ticking them off in my head!

GoldenRetrieverBert · 28/07/2024 18:25

@coodawoodashooda

"I think it would also be whichever device you had connected to your Bluetooth."

With mine there is a cable that you upload whatever you want on to the headphones. Then you don't have a separate device on/near the pool if that makes sense. I'm not very technical!

That's helpful. I'm not tech minded either. Thanks.

I can't think I'd concentrate and remember whilst listening to a podcast!

Tayogo brilliant - I use them 4-5 times a week, the charge lasts hours and they are really effective.
I lost an ear piece and was able to order spare parts of their website too

Icepop79 · 29/07/2024 07:24

Another vote for the Shokz. The sound is really clear and excellent quality. Agree with the other comments about Bluetooth - it just doesn’t work under the water (but would probably be fine if you’re keeping your head out of the water).

To count lengths, I use my Apple Watch. You can set the length in metres on your watch and then it keeps count as you swim (also records what stroke you’re doing…although it weirdly often claims I’ve done about 20m butterfly…!)
