Car failed MOT last Sat. Sold it to scrap for pennies because it wasn't worth fixing. So I'm stuck without a, car in an area with crap transport links.

Kitten is in season because there's, been no appointments for a spay at my vets. She's very unhappy and peeing everywhere (which I paid to find out at said vets, who still can't give me a date for a spay because they're so short staffed) and has repeatedly peed on my bed leaving me with a massive pile of washing to do only...

I can't do anything because my washer isn't working at the moment after washing a quilted mattress topper after said cat peed on it. I'm literally sleeping on a towel with a sheet and a blanket I keep for my nephew visiting.

Genuinely feel like crying!

Well that sounds fucking miserable. You have all my sympathy, especially for the cat piss everywhere.

I hope that in a year's time all these problems will seem so much smaller and less significant in the rearview mirror, but right now I think you could be forgiven for issuing a few curses on the universe/God/whatever you believe in, for having dumped everything on you at once.

Find another vet. That's ridiculous

Lurkingandlearning · 27/07/2024 05:39

Each thing is bad but all together…. I’d feel like crying too.

Do you have a friend who might pick you and your washing up and let you use her washing machine and take you and it home to dry it out there. I’m guessing you’d only need give her a bit of cash to cover her costs. Then at least you’d get a good nights sleep. (Unless the pissy kitten gets there first)

hammering · 27/07/2024 06:59

If a friend of mine was stuck I'd do some washing for them (or take them to a launderette if that was their preference!) Is there nobody local who'd help you out?

Once the cat peed on the bed once I'd make sure doors were kept shut though.

AnAwkwardQuestion · 27/07/2024 08:08

I thought I had shut her out but she must have been hiding under the bed.

Will be trying other vets on Monday because we're all miserable and I'm getting a new mattress delivered next week. I really don't want her weeing on that 😕 also going to pick up some paper litter today because I was subbed clay and I'm not sure if she likes it.

The washer is only a year old and I have no idea what's going on with it. I've checked all the obvious stuff with no issues and I really don't have the money to replace it.

I can take the stuff to my mum's and use her washer thankfully, it'll just be a pita.

It's been so frustrating. Ring up on a Mon or Tue, get told to ring back on Fri when they have the new rota because there's no spay appointments available. Ring up on a Fri, still no appointments, ring back next week.

We've been using them for our animals for absolutely ages too but they older vet who owned it has retired and sold the practice to a big group and it seems like there's just a constant rotation of locum vets. Everyone locally is complaining about it!

I'm sorry, that's shit. I thought I was actually doing ok until I had a combined washing machine breakdown and MOT fail within a month of each other earlier this year but it totally wiped me out - everything is so expensive. I spent ages trying to find a launderette near me but they just don't seem to exist any more, I could only find dry cleaners.

If you were my friend I'd definitely pick you up and bring you round to use my washing machine (and have a cup of tea and a biscuit).

I'd still find another vet!

Washer now seems to be working! No idea why it wouldn't spin earlier but it's spinning now!

OP posts:
GiveMeMySoddingCokeZero · 27/07/2024 15:47

Ah great, guess who's sleeping in a full set of bedsheets tonight!

Mine sometimes refuses to spin if it imagines it's detected an unbalanced load, or if it's gradually shuffled itself imperceptibly across the kitchen floor to a spot that it doesn't feel comfortable spinning on.

whirlyhead · 27/07/2024 15:52

My quite new washer will not spin something if it’s very heavy when wet so maybe it was just the mattress topper it had an issue with?

Boomer55 · 27/07/2024 15:57

If it’s not spinning, it could be because the load has become unbalanced. Stop the programme, straighten out the wet washing and do another spin programme. That usually sorts it out.

BloodandGlitter · 27/07/2024 16:59

If you take it as bad things come in threes OP then you've already used up all your bad luck and things can only get better from here on out.

Agree with this. You have every right to feel upset. Please take care. As hard as it is, these are resolvable problems and will eventually be sorted. Glad you can use your mum's washing machine. Are you able to get a bank loan for a cheap car ( I've done that several times)> Things will get better OP, bite sized chunks
