Pelvic pain/bleeding with covid?

I currently have covid. It's hit me very hard. The headache has been unbearable. One thing I'm concerned about is that I've randomly started bleeding, very lightly, bright pink with lots of stabbing pelvic pain. My periods are super regular, I've tracked them for years and have only ever had 27-29 day cycles and I never get pain beyond a mild cramp. I'm worried the virus might have messed with my mirena (no idea how it would, I'm not medical), or maybe this is just a normal side effect of covid? I can't find much online that isn't anecdotal. WIBU to contact my GP?

Yes - it's normal.

SpiritAdder · 23/07/2024 22:50

Er, no it could be normal/nothing, but it might not be. Any unexplained bleeding between periods should be referred to gynaecology. Go to your GP.

What cycle day are you on? When I visited my GP last year about abnormal menstrual bleeding, the first thing they asked was whether I’d had Covid. I have had Covid twice and it’s caused a dodgy cycles. Don’t panic, get checked out.

Having actual Covid didn’t affect my cycle but when I got one of the vaccines I had my first “period” in two years. Mine had stopped since being on the mini pill. But I bled after the vax.

Day 14. The pain I've got is like intense ovary pain on my left.

Definitely see your GP. Try not to worry.

My intense ovary pain over the course of a few months turned out to be a 10mm ovarian cyst
I had to have the Fallopian tube and ovary removed so definitely get it checked out
My doctor dismissed me a fair few times over this so insist on an ultrasound scan

OP if you have a Mirena, you don’t have a cycle so it’s a bit pointless to track it. Spotting with Mirena is normal, it’s only concerning if you can’t feel your threads, you’re having pain on sex or your threads feel too long.

You’re not bleeding between periods because you don’t have periods. You might have a regular-ish bleeding pattern with Mirena but it’s not a period and can change at any time during the 8-year licence.

Probably nothing to do with Covid (although if you’re coughing forcefully it might have shifted your Mirena!) but any pelvic pain should be investigated.

Thanks. I track it because it's very regular otherwise I'd be caught off guard. I just like to know when I'm going to be bleeding.

Okay 🤷🏼‍♀️ was just explaining that the Mirena doesn’t work like that, and any pattern you’ve noticed in your bleeding is purely coincidental and likely to vary.

I wasn't being sarcy, was just explaining why I tracked my bleeds. I'm fairly certain you can still have a 'cycle' on the mirena. I still ovulate and get ovulation pain, bleed at the same interval, still get PMS, still get physical symptoms etc. If that's not a cycle then I don't know what is!
