Can anyone help….Norovirus

I know it’s late but I’m hoping someone might be a me to help/ reassure me. My whole family has had a horrendous case of Noro (or some awful stomach bug) the last few days.

I was sick all night Saturday night until 5.30 Sunday morning. I felt absolutely horrendous on Sunday and couldn’t get out of bed all day.

Yesterday I felt much better and was able to get up and about and even managed to eat a few bits.

Just woke up and started vomiting…..again. How?! Why? I’m laying here so anxious that it’s going to be an all night thing again. I’m meant to be back at work today too.

Has anyone else got better and then a day later started being sick again?

That sounds awful, I'm awake as my dog's unwell so keep having to let him out. And now I can't sleep.

I would be emailing work now at 4am to let them know you can't make it in and take the pressure off.

I would guess you'll still be infectious.

I've had bugs come and go like that but I imagine this next bout will be so much milder, and your body doing its job and getting shot if the virus.

It took each of us 5-6 days to feel better when we got it.

Your stomach is super sensitive now OP. Have you taken anything to rehydrate (other than water?). What have you eaten today?

Fanonhighest · 23/07/2024 04:47

I had a lucozade sport this morning (thought it would help with electrolytes) along with some toast.

This evening DH made me some cheese, beans and toast.

I also had a couple of ice lollies.

I’ve had noro (sickness bugs) before and have never had a resurgence after the sickness etc ending and feeling better for a day. That’s what’s worrying me.

You can't go to work for 48 hours after the last time you're sick (please don't, it's spreading so badly because people won't stay at home.)

Cheese and beans on an already upset stomach are probably the reason why you were sick again. Stick to lighter, less greasy and acidic fod for a bit!

It’s a horrible bug. No idea where DH and I got it from.
Took several days to get over -and did come back with diarhea days later.

I’m fully remote, don’t worry I’d never risk spreading this to anyone!

Hope it's stopped for you now.

But I'll echo the other poster you just need to stick to dry crackers, dry toast and lots of fluids, if anyone can get out you can buy electrolytes as tablets in the supermarket they are called Phizz and they really help get fluids up.

Hope you can rest today.

My 2 boys had this a few weeks ago and it was the worst case we had. They seemed to get better and then rebound for several days I think they were being sick on and off for about 5 days in the end thought we'd end up in a&e but thankfully they got better on day 6.

SendNoodles · 23/07/2024 07:52

My DD (age 5) was very similar last week. She was sick 4 times on Fri evening/night (last one around 11 p.m.). Nothing at all on Saturday and most of Sunday (off her food a bit but eating). We thought we were in the clear, but she was sick again Sunday around 6 p.m. I've never seen a big gap like that.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 23/07/2024 09:17

I don't think it's particularly uncommon. My DD had a stomach bug a few years ago where she was sick a few times Wednesday/Thursday, ok over the weekend and then sick again Monday evening. She was fine from the Tuesday.

Fuelledbylatte · 23/07/2024 09:42

My DD was like this but it was salmonella not noro.

Best to stay off dairy - toast, small amounts of dry crackers, bananas and plenty of fluids. A probiotic powder or tablet...I think dairy alternatives are fine if you want oat milk in a decaf coffee etc (avoid caffeine)

Then to rebuild the gut biome we were told kefir, kimchi and kombucha.

Feel better soon!
