Naming dog similar name to DD

For context this is light hearted, DD is fine with it and it's all very funny.

DD is 18, she leaves for uni this year. We have decided to get a dog to fill our empty nest and it's confirmed that we will get the puppy a day after DD moves out! The puppy is a little blonde dachshund and DH joked it would be what DD would look like if she was dog (blonde, long and skinny). DD is named Bella - so I'm thinking we name the dog Beau!!
DD thinks it's funny and DH likes it but my family and friends think it's crazy and a bit mean to DD.

AIBU to give my dog a similar name to DD?

Not similar at all

They are completely different names.

They are exactly the same name, just the male and female form.

I think that's hilarious though OP, go for it. If you were using Belle I'd be feeling very sorry for your daughter but Beau is fine.

I worked with someone whose parents got a rescue dog. It had the same name as their daughter, they didn't change the dog's name. She didn't run after the ball when her parents shouted "Sam - fetch"

You’re unreasonable for not putting up a photo! Beau is nothing like Bella anyway!

Brie, my blond dachshund ❤️

I had this exact same situation, my child is called Peter and I called my dog Florence!

That must have got so confusing!!

CurlewKate · 21/07/2024 20:04

They are the masculine and feminine version of the same word! I think it's funny

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/07/2024 20:11

They are not the same. And unless you speak French, are not even similar. I would go with Ella, or Stella, or Petronella myself….much more fun

Amazing! I’ve got a Steven too!

My rescue cat has a shortened version of my son's name. Son came first. Son and cat have coped just fine.

I wouldn’t have said they were similar names to be honest!

It's same name (masculine & feminine in French)

jlox · 21/07/2024 21:01

I know someone who has a dog called Lola and daughter called Lyla. You're fine 😂

Mayhemmumma · 21/07/2024 21:05

I don't get it?

Male and female versions of "beautiful".

cadburyegg · 21/07/2024 21:11

Do it, it's fine. One of our cats has quite a similar name to ds2 Smile

EnglishBluebell · 21/07/2024 21:13

Beau is a male name
