To buy a giant dolls house?

3DC under five, plenty of room in playroom.

We went to a play city a few days ago and they had a giant dolls house. Oldest DC could just about reach to play in the top floor, they could actually crawl in the bottom and out of the windows. It was above my shoulder (I'm 5 foot 4).

AIBU to think this is a brilliant toy with room for all DC to play together? Or will it just take up loads of space and be a five minute wonder?

Does anyone have one? Is it used? Where did you get it from?

Buy it!

Go for it 👍

HedgehogB · 20/07/2024 15:18

Go for it! I have my very own and I’m 51…..

If the top can’t be reached very well I’d be worried about them climbing up and hurting themselves or getting frustrated they can’t play properly with it. I think a big dolls house is a fab idea but not sure if this is maybe a
bit too big for home where play will be less supervised than a day out.

Hmmm, this is maybe a good point!

I think I just got over excited about how cool it was, as did the kids when they discovered they could crawl through the windows. 😂

Look at marketplace or similar as I found they were bored after couple of months and it took up a lot of space in playroom. 2nd hand and then re sell

Oneearringlost · 20/07/2024 19:24

This is mine, I did all the electrics ( just googled it) and a chiming Grandfather clock.
Buts it's DARK ( if you look at it properly).

Sorry, OP, go for it...it could excite you or your children for years....

Oneearringlost · 20/07/2024 19:25

Oh, for goodness sake, how do I attach a photo if I'm on my phone?
I can't see how...

Abigaillovesholidays · 20/07/2024 19:26

Get one! And some bigger furniture!!

TonTonMacoute · 20/07/2024 19:51

Agree with PPs that such a big one might have hazardous elements for small DCs, but dolls houses are brilliant toys. I loved playing with mine as a child

A friend bought herself a dolls house in her 60s, when people asked if it was for the grandchildren she said 'No, certainly not!'. She bought bits for it gradually and it was beautiful.

Oneearringlost · 20/07/2024 19:52

Done it, this is mine. OP, do it. You won't regret it.

Buy it. But maybe screw to the wall if they will climb through the window!

Exactly what I am planning on doing when I retire!

I’m so tempted to do this, to have one in my living room and gradually furnish it and mess around with the interior occasionally! Yours looks incredible, is it fun to have one?

SandandSky · 20/07/2024 20:19

Do it!!! We have an enormous one that DHs grandfather build for his auntie

we have boys and girls - and they all love it

POTC · 20/07/2024 20:19

My sister and I received one for Christmas when I was 8. I'm now 42 and still remember it so I'd definitely say yes!

I've had a look as I managed to find out that the one I saw is an 'Our Generation Sweet Home'. Seems like it was sold in Smyth's for £160 but now unavailable. But it's going second hand for £2-300!
