AIBU to consider Southern Europe in August

I’ve been looking at holidays for August, the usual beach resort type places in Southern Europe. I think I’ve talked myself out of it due to the extreme temperatures. Would I be U and mad to consider it?

We’re doing it this summer with 4 children ranging from 12 to 2. It will be stiflingly hot. Having said that, we’ve done it before and survived. Most places have air con for during the day and it’s lovely at night. I guess it depends on what you want to do. If it’s just a beach holiday then it probably will be too much but if you’re wandering round cities it’ll be ok

I think wandering round cities is much worse in the heat tbh. I’ll never forget Corfu Town with a buggy in the daytime for a lovely stroll! Almost died!
Beach/pool I think it’s fine. Lay down, heat up, get in water, cool off, repeat until time to fly home.

It very much depends where you are, I think. We once went to Toledo for a day in August with a double buggy and that was without a doubt the worst idea we’ve ever had. It was 50 odd degrees, uphill walk to the city, no shade whatsoever when we got there. Returning to Madrid was a massive relief because everywhere has air con and there are shades over the streets. A lot of the beaches in Southern Spain unlike Greece, for example, don’t have any shade at all and are basically unbearable in the summer. I think you just have to be very careful with location

We go every August and always enjoy it. But we are mostly relaxing by the pool/on the beach as temperatures are often mid-30s in the daytime and low 30s in the evening, so it’s considerably hotter than our home country. I could not manage sightseeing in this heat though and it has sometimes been uncomfortable to eat out in the evening time as it’s still very hot.

TBH I can't see the point as it would be much too hot to venture outside in daylight!
