3 year old screams bloody murder

When I look after my neice which I do about once a month or so, when her parents leave she absolutely screams bloody murder for like up to 5 minutes. Is this normal? She is 3.5 years old. I end up just leaving her as I offer drink, toys, but anything I offer makes her scream more and the closer I go to her the more she screams so I just say I love you and I'm here when you're ready. I tried just sitting with her but that makes her scream more. Am I doing the right things?

Each child is different so I would ask the parents if there is something you can do to reach out to her.
I found that with my 2.5 yo, there is sometimes (maybe half the time) nothing we can do but wait for it to be over, as he will not listen to us.

It's getting better as he get older though, so I find 3.5 a bit old for tantrums like this, but I'm not sure what's the norm at that age.

I could only compare her to my 3.5 year old who doesn't do that. When we leave him with his aunt and uncle he takes his shoes off at the door and then goes to play with his baby cousin's toys. He's not fussed about us leaving at all 😂

It sounds like you’re doing the right things. Giving space and intermittently approaching to see if she’s ready to respond. Maybe it’s be cause it feels out of routine if it’s it’s only one a month or so.
