Everyone going batshit over communal bins

I just wanna see what everyone's opinion is on this matter.

For context, I've lived in a culdesac/close type place for 20+ years. Parents own multiple properties on the close too. Everything was fine, then in the last 2 years, some of the residents have formed a 'committee' and they are changing things - I tend to stay out of it, but I do agree with some of the things they are trying to change.

The bins were round the corner out the way, where they have been for the fucking last 20 odd years. In the last few months these people who have lived here only a few years have now decided to put the bins right in front of the houses because they were scared that someone would set fire to them (dunno what difference that makes).

Now there is rubbish everywhere, all over the road we drive our cars into, people not putting the rubbish int he actual bin - it looks disgusting. Before it was confined to that one space and the bin men would collect it tidy it up.

Tonight, I have just witnessed two of the residents shouting at another resident, telling him he is not allowed to put his bin in the massive bin because it is full - they threatened to send the footage to the council and have him done for fly tipping which he would be fined thousands 🫣 the guy took his black bag of rubbish back to his house.

These people are bat shit crazy and it's like we can't come out of our houses without being ridiculed. It's like a dictatorship, they have monthly meetings and all sorts 🤣

Well done if you got this far, are these people allowed to chuck their weight about. AIBU to think they're bat shit crazy

Then you need to join their committee and change from within

StJanetof · 15/07/2024 23:37

Why would a bin arsonist be put off by the new position?

wtaf2 · 15/07/2024 23:39

@StJanetof

This is what I mean, like they are going to set it a light either way if they want to 🤣

I don't know what your local council's rules are about bins and how full they can be. Some council's say that they must be completely closed.

But this

I have just witnessed two of the residents shouting at another resident, telling him he is not allowed to put his bin in the massive bin because it is full - they threatened to send the footage to the council and have him done for fly tipping which he would be fined thousands

Could be seen as threatening and harassment which is illegal. So your neighbour could go to the police or a solicitor.

Also the "committee" itself may not be legal.

Just remember that these types of disputes could go on for ages and cost lots of money. Proper legal advice is not cheap.

cupcaske123 · 15/07/2024 23:40

Can you start a petition regarding the bins or get some of the other neighbours to go en masse to the next meeting and demand the bins are changed back

wtaf2 · 15/07/2024 23:42

@cupcaske123

Apparently the one who caused this big thing about the bins, now wants them moved back. We have a management company for the estate, but we are on private property. Honestly it's a shit show

Neighbour disputes are always a nightmare. Best of luck with it.

They're more like a gang, that are bullying other people who are freeholders - some are only leasing and have been here 5 minutes

Do you mean that they are renting?
If so you can complain to whoever they are renting from.

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 16/07/2024 00:46

I think the only sensible option at this stage is to set fire to the bins.

Heelworkhero · 16/07/2024 00:49

Yes, set fire to the bins.
Then call a meeting and say they were never burned in the original spot.
Problem solved.

Bearybasket · 16/07/2024 01:40

I can’t tell you how glad I am that I’m not the only person who’s first thought was to set the bins on fire in their new spot 😂😅

HucklefinBerry · 16/07/2024 03:26

So what happens if you just do your own thing and ignore them?

Like I have been doing? They have formed a gang, and shout at people from their house and threaten them

I think your only option is to set fire to the new bin. Then put all blame on the self appointed bin marshalls. It hadn't been set on fire in the original place but since they moved it... then get the neighbours to back you in your new role of chief bin marshall, sack the others and move the bin back.

I actually hate people like this. I live on a road with bin enthusiasts and one of these 'decided' one day that nobody could have bins at the front of the house. They 'decide' a lot of things actually... how high people can have their hedges, god forbid you have somebody around who has brought a car and needs to park it...

Don't let them win! Be strong! Otherwise it could get worse!!!

We now have young adults that have been raised with a phone in front of them since birth. No social skills, no respect and no understanding of how to handle complex or sensitive issues. Tell me this hasn't contributed to the state of society.....
