Shameless posting I know…

I am trying to locate a family member and i’m going round and round in circles. It’s really quite important to find this person (if they’re still alive) asap 🙏…

Is anyone particularly good with this website?! I will happily PM the info I have.

TIA!!

Is this someone you have a name for e.g a long lost uncle or are you doing your tracing by DNA e.g finding your unknown Dad? Sorry for the questions but there are different groups on Facebook I will recommend where someone may be able to help you

Are you on Facebook? Have a look at the search squad group someone should be able to help you. Have you checked electoral rolls/192.com?

Ancestrysos · 14/07/2024 22:48

Probably stating the obvious, but have you done a Boolean search online?
For example, like this:
"John Smith"+"Any Street"+Liverpool+1950 etc, etc.

You can use it on databases such as electoral lists.

Ancestrysos · 14/07/2024 22:58

@logicisall I have but unfortunately
they have the most common British first and surname known to man kind. It’s literally like
searching John smith!!

I’m in Ireland and 90% of my searching has been here, I am not as familiar with the resources available in the UK but I have found the 192.com site brilliant. You can check the gro.gov.uk website for births deaths and marriages. Do you have an idea where he lives? If so join groups local to that area and put up a post asking if anyone knows the name. If you could join the newspaper archives and search for an article on him - you could be lucky. Do you know any of his siblings? Do you know the school he attended? Even a tiny piece of info can open up a door for you.

Was there a typo in that gov.uk link? I can’t get it to work

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 14/07/2024 23:35

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

Hope this works

Yes it did but that's just the page for ordering new certificates? To do that, you'd need to know all their details
