To think I could avoid HG in third pregnancy?

I have had HG in two pregnancies. I would love a third child but the thought of being so ill again when I’ve got to other children to consider makes me think it’s just not possible. My head tells me it’s a terrible idea.
However I’m wondering if I could make some changes to my diet/ start using supplements that could help me avoid or lessen it. I have seen that they recently identified the hormone that causes it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-67684023.amp
I just wanted to know if anyone has done research into this and might have any advice? Or if someone has avoided it in a third pregnancy by chance?

I did it twice and won’t be doing it a third time!

One hg preg was enough for me so only have one dd

Friend had 2 terrible hg preg and went for a third but was so so poorly hg that had to have an abortion in the end as was literally killing her

Only you can decide whether to go again

For me one was bad enlightening

My friend did it twice, it's the main reason she doesn't have a third. I did it once, I couldn't imagine doing it again with the addition of a toddler to look after!

You might get lucky, but I'd plan on the assumption you'll be very ill in a third pregnancy. Sorry.

I think you're being massively naive if you think you can control it in a third pregnancy.

My friend had severe sickness though not quite at HG level with babies 1, 2 and 4, but not 3. She didn’t do anything different, except baby 3 was conceived very soon after baby 2 (11 month age gap) so have wondered if there was some hormonal reason for the difference.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 14/07/2024 13:12

I got severe sickness not quite hg with baby number 2 and 3 (and the miscarriage between) but no sickness with number 4 (and number 1)

I don't want to put you off too much but think very carefully - I'm currently pregnant with my 3rd and have HG.
I'm 12 weeks and I'm an absolute mess, for want of a better phrase.
DD I had very bad nausea for 20 weeks, DS I had HG until 22 weeks, this one is by far the worst - I'm practically bed bound, cannot look after my kids or myself. Work is a shitshow I'm currently WFH as I'm being sick 5-15 times a day. Without my mam and husband I'd not cope and I'm not sure how I will cope for another 2 months of this.

I feel like a terrible mother,a crap partner and a rubbish daughter.

86% chance of having it again unfortunately. However there is some research to show very early treatment (preventative) can help. You can get resources from Pregnancy Sickness Support to take to your GP. I had 5 HG pregnancies, all bad but slightly easier when I got meds early

It is naive to think you can control your risk of getting HG again. The wellness industry has this negative side that makes people think that if you eat this food or do this exercise or follow this routine you can avoid this or that condition. Yes you can optimise your health and be in the best possible shape to face another round of HG. No you cannot control whether you get it or not.

I had HG during the whole pregnancy the first time round. Second time around the sickness stopped at 18 weeks. It was fucking amazing to be pregnant and not feel sick. I didn't do anything differently.
