To love Count Binface

I take democracy quite seriously - or I thought I did. I disapprove strongly of spoilt ballot papers. I’ve never liked any joke candidates before but somehow Count Binface is just so intelligent and has such childlike enthusiasm, I just can’t help it.

YABU - He’s one of the good guys
YANBU - He’s a pain/bad for democracy

I like Piers Morgan to be zero emissions by 2030 - assuming it’s done legally.

😁

I used to love the Monster Raving Loony candidate (when we had one) too. Alas no Loony for the last couple of elections.

I love this daft aspect of our elections - and the fact that it’s still a pencil and paper X, not to mention no police with guns outside polling stations. I would never trust electronic voting - hackers can get into anything.

Yes. If ballot papers went there’d no longer be the declaration and then the victory and concession speeches in the sports hall or wherever in the middle of the night. It would just ruin everything. It wouldn’t necessarily boost participation either, and our system is difficult to hack as you say.
I believe at least three of Lord Sutch’s demands were met eventually: votes for teenagers, commercial radio and passports for pets. He seemed a bit old hat by the time I had the opportunity to vote for him in a by-election though. I don’t think he used to research the local area the way Count Binface does.
If you had a genuine local loony then I can see why you might miss him.

I loved his mayoral election pledge to raise the speed limit in central London from 20mph to 70mph.

I think he’s great !

Thanks so much for sharing this, what an absolutely beautiful article. Agree, he's a good 'un and it was nice to hear Sadiq Khan's comments about him when he was most recently re-elected.

Surely not a Binface pledge! Was that the raving loonies?

MRLP pledged to ban white wall tyres in the Blackwall tunnel.
