Dog playing with ball in livingroom

Do people with dogs throw balls for them in their living rooms to play with?

I have a relative staying with me as he’s been ill. His large dog has had to come with him as there’s not really any other options. I don’t have a dog - he’s an absolutely lovely dog - but my house is not really big enough for animals or have the space - light-coloured carpets everywhere for example.

My relative every day brings out the dog’s ball in the lounge and starts playing with it in my lounge, throwing it for the dog, letting him play with it, dropping the wet ball on the carpet, our knees, sofa (which is fabric), the dog slides along the carpet to catch the ball etc. (We are surrounded by countryside, my relative is fit to walk the dog and play outside, we have a reasonable sized garden).

Am I being too precious and am I being unreasonable, or am I not being unreasonable and is this out of order?

Thanks

We do, but we have a tiny garden, (even smaller living room), hard floors, leather couches (so easily cleaned) and he's our dog. YANBU, your relative is being inconsiderate. Have you said anything? They might just not have thought about if it's something they do at home.

Dogs need to be engaged and played with beyond just taking them on a walk though. You don’t just take them for a walk or two and then ignore them the rest of the day.

That said I wouldn’t want a big slobbery dog in my home, but you did invite the dog too.

I totally get that and I love the dog but I didn’t invite the dog, I really don’t want it here and there was nowhere else for it to go. I am willing to suck it up, but I still think it’s unreasonable to have it playing with a ball in the house.

Tell him to take it outside to play if you have outside room and he's fit.

Yes, I’ve already said I don’t think it’s appropriate to play with the ball in the lounge, more than once. The dog also got hurt on my coffee table and that ended up being my fault as I was trying to give the ball to my relative when the dog jumped for it and hit the table.

We play all the time with our dog indoors, he has balls, tug toys, stuffed animals. He’s a border collie so likes playing with lots of different indoor toys, as well as outside ones.

Lose the ball. . We have 4 ddogs. Certainly don't engage with a ball in our lounge. We have 4 beds up there and they know it's settle down or back downstairs!! Where they have a selection of toys.. Balls live outside...

Hell no.

BoobyDazzler · 13/07/2024 20:16

We do but I wouldn’t in anyone else’s home.

No balls are for outside.
