To ask if you'd buy new white goods from eBay?

Hoping for traffic and some experience or opinions.
Need a new fridge freezer with no frost feature, but they're so expensive new from places like JL, Ao etc.
Seen new (ex display) Bosch being sold for half the price on eBay. Have called seller (far away from where I live) and he says their fully functional and come with 2 years manufacturer warranty.

Would you do it ? Have you done it ?
Thanks

Yes, if a business seller with lots of feedback 1000's I buy loads on eBay. Oven, washing machine etc but only from business selllers

We bought an oven from an ebay outlet. It was described as new but cosmetically damaged and about 40% of the cost of one from AO/Curry's/JL etc.

I went over it with a fine tooth comb when it arrived and I can't see the alleged scratches and dent it apparently has. This was around 4 years ago and its still working and used regularly.

People also often sell used appliances if they move or remodel their homes and their existing ones are unsuitable.

So yes, it's definitely something I would do again.

Thank you both, quite reassuring!

Probably not. Because it would be a pain to get delivered and installed. And since it is ex. display you don't know whether or not it will be scratched or have stuff broken on it.

And what happens if you want to claim on that warranty when they are no longer around. People tell all sorts of lies on ebay. What happens if the thing gets delivered and installed and you try to enter the serial number for warranty registration and it doesn't work ?

The big retailers do delivery, installation and disposal of your old fridge in one go.

I would probably go for a cheaper brand new if you can't afford Bosch rather than get a second hand Bosch one.

The Bosch stuff is pretty good though.

A few months ago we bought a washer from a seller on ebay.
It was refurbished returns, we paid £152 with free delivery for a Hoover 10kg Washing Machine, RRP is around £350ish.
We bought it in March and it's still going strong, and it also came with a year's guarantee.
It had a few dents in it, but these were highlighted in the pictures with stickers, and were on the side which the cabinets hide.
Good luck! We couldn't afford from AO either and just needed something ASAP.

Never. I want easy refunds, preferably with collection.

dotcombubble · 12/07/2024 16:17

Business seller yes, private seller probably not unless it was near enough to go and see it.

Gaffe · 12/07/2024 16:19

Depends on the seller. I know you arent going to visit but does it have a physical premises? Half price for ex-display I'd smell a rat. Isnt there an Argos clearance bargains nearby?

We got a new washing machine and saved £300 on it from curry’s shop on eBay. They said it was reduced due to small dint on the side. It turned up and I can’t even see a dint!!

I think this is a warehouse which has Curry's ex products for sale. 100 per cent reviews and yes it's a company. I just wanted one with no frost option

Yes - I've bought many white goods.from business sellers in Ebay. Great prices and same experience as buying from a shop.

I’d definitely recommend it, we’ve had ours for a month now great condition no problems. They usually also have guarantees as well

I’ve bought many white goods from eBay over the years. Usually slight seconds due to having a tiny scratch or dint somewhere you can’t see once they’re installed. They’ve all been great.
