Can someone put me out of my misery?

I have COVID, it has affected me pretty badly, exhausted, headaches, fever, aches, sore throat, the full monty. I have been off work all week when we are under staffed so I feel guilty as well as terrible. My head hurts I can't take any more paracetamol and I can't take NSAIDs so no ibuprofen.

I am sleeping on sofa tonight to avoid DH who needs to sleep and can't while I am snoring hideously and the sofa has been my home all week.

My boss must be pee'd off, so will have to deal with that.

I think I am about to start my period which is always heavy and painful.

My head hurts and I just turned 50 and I am so bored of feeling terrible my cough is sounding like a seal bark I am so tired.

Pity party sofa for one.

That sounds like a rough ride for you. At such times I remind myself that it is temporary and will pass. I hope you feel better soon.

Moier · 12/07/2024 00:06

I feel for you..
It will pass..remember it won't last forever.
I've had it 5 times.1st before vaccinations and was hospitalised ( nearly died) .worse illness of my life and I've had some awful illnesses.
I'm wishing you a speedy recovery.
💐

Tagyoureit · 12/07/2024 00:08

Fuck everyone else and get yourself better.

Sleep, drink fluids, take paracetamol, stick in your favourite tv films or programmes whatever, doesn't matter as you'll hopefully be sleeping.

When you are finally better, take a day just for you to pamper yourself, hot soak in the bath, facepack whatever makes you happy.

Then deal with shit!

MedicalCannabis · 12/07/2024 00:12

If you've got the energy, try regular salt water rinses, gargling with it. Feel sorry for you though!

Dingdongdownunder · 12/07/2024 00:21

This is me as well OP, although I'm in the spare bedroom rather than the couch luckily! My body aches, I'm constantly cold, my head is pounding. I feel like death 😩hope you start to feel better soon!!

Mmhmmn · 12/07/2024 00:26

Ah no OP. And dingdong. That’s rotten. What about a late night sweet tea and toast? ☕️ 🍞 You won’t feel like this forever even though it feels like that now. You’ll be back out in the sunlight in another few days 🌅 Take it easy and lots of fluids…

lovelysunshine22 · 12/07/2024 00:28

This was me two weeks ago op! I hope you are feeling better soon.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/07/2024 00:29

I had it a few weeks ago. I was exhausted and could hardly move from my bed. Just wanted sleep. When I first had it the throat pain was unbearable, the fever, the headache - this time was different, my head was spinning for a week and I ached all over. It's horrible.
Get well soon

SnowFrogJelly · 12/07/2024 00:34

DH should sleep on sofa you're not well!

FlemCandango · 12/07/2024 01:44

Thank you all for kind messages. Fell asleep after posting and just woke up in a panicky work dream being shouted at.

I will drink some water and try to think about when I can take more nice drugs. I am not going to be able to work today even if dream managers are shouting at me.

Feel better v soon anyone else ill out there

Can you buy some stronger codeine based pain pills from the pharmacy. Or even ask your GP for codeine? It's good for coughs as well as pain.
Try having a bath with loads of epsom salts in it. Like use the whole 500g bag.
I've found taking iodine and boron also helped.
Hope you feel better soon. It wont last forever, though it does always feel like it!

rumblegrumble · 12/07/2024 02:13

I'm sorry, been a while since I had it but was bloody horrid - sleep, flu pills and (most importantly!) lots and lots of cough sweets - you will get through this!

Nat6999 · 12/07/2024 03:15

I was in a similar state last winter with a non covid chest infection, felt awful, couldn't eat, night's were awful, I couldn't sleep for coughing, couldn't swallow painkillers or the antibiotics I had been prescribed as my throat was so swollen. I ended up on 6+ Calpol, children's Nurofen & having to have liquid antibiotics. It does pass, try to sleep when you can, eat what you fancy & drink as much as you can.

Aria999 · 12/07/2024 03:21

Hope you feel better. I once had a gp say to take 1000mg vitamin c and zinc tablets and it helped. (Pre covid though).

groggygirl · 12/07/2024 03:37

Hope you feel better soon, covid wiped me out a few months ago and took me a good couple of weeks to get back to normal.
I'm currently laid up in bed post surgery and my back is throbbing. DH is snoring intermittently but I can't get up and go downstairs as I'm not allowed to do stairs without support. Instead I'm laid here plotting ways of shutting him up.

GoldFrame · 12/07/2024 03:46

Sod’s Law to be unwell and due your period. I hope you feel better soon 💐

FlemCandango · 12/07/2024 13:30

Well last night was my super low point. I ended my evening watching Shaun of the Dead which I love. But I was feeling sorry for the zombies as they were looking like I felt .... It had been 4 days of feeling shite and it was getting me down.

Today I am actually feeling human at last. My period is definitely about to drop as I tend to cheer up in the hours before it comes on.

My head has cleared somewhat and I am able to move without thinking about it for ages beforehand and can make a cuppa without needing a lie down to recover from the effort.

Of course now DH and the oldest 2 kids are coming down hard. So I have to relinquish my spot on the sofa of doom and the recovery telly is now star wars / classic Dr Who for ds.

Thank you for the kind messages they really helped in the early hours. I hope anyone feeling rough now can remember - it will pass. I struggled to do that last night, which is why I posted and I am glad I did.

We all caught covid back in the main covid times. Felt absolutely horrific just like you. Achey, shivery, cold, hot, sneezy, coulnd't smell or taste, couldn't sleep, couldn't stay awake. It was just completely rotten.

It was the same on day 6 when I woke up but suddenly realised about 2pm that day that I was feeling much better. Day 7 I was completely fine again (although smell/taste took a day or 2 to return!)

Here's hoping your recovery is as swift as mine
