Worried about what’s happening to my breasts

Over the past few weeks I’ve had some odd things occurring with my boobs!

On my left, I’ve developed what I think might be a cyst, it started as a pea sized lump and became dark red/purple and then grew larger and tender, with the area around being hard. Today there was a head so I’ve squeezed it and so much pus came shooting out with liquid and some blood. There’s still so much in there that isn’t ready to come out and it’s now swollen and still quite tender. There’s also a small indent about 5cm away from it.

I wouldn’t have been worried about it but now I’ve got another lump growing on my right breast which feels like the same thing and is growing.

I also had some scaly skin on my left boob which I noticed about a month ago, which I tried to scratch off (I know, I shouldn’t), and now it’s turned into a small, caved open wound that isn’t healing.

I have diabetes and PCOS (currently on metformin) but not sure this would cause stuff like this?

I will be calling the GP to get checked out, but I’m just wondering if anyone experienced this and found out why/what the outcome was?

Poor you, that sounds awful 😔

Can't advise on what it could be but please, definitely get it checked asap!
Do you feel well otherwise?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 11/07/2024 20:28

Glad you’re going to see the GP.

tiredandmoody · 11/07/2024 20:35

@PumpkinPie2016 I do feel okay but it is sore and the area is swollen, and the redness has spread quite a lot!

Anyone else have any experience?

Sounds horrible for you.
hard to say what this could be but GP would probably refer you for 2ww clinic (not that you should be alarmed as more likely a skin condition and bilateral so less likely to be anything else)
they also will probably send a swab
check your diabetic control
treat with antibiotics if it's actively looking infected
definitely go to the GP though

@ohnoi thank you for the advice I appreciate it xx

Sounds like you have a skin infection which is causing cyst/boils. You probably need antibiotics.

CortieTat · 11/07/2024 21:45

No advice but my father has diabetes and skin infections and wounds that take ages to heal are normal and common occurrences. His skin has become thinner in places due to damaged micro blood vessels (diabetes does this) so it’s more prone to infections.
Can you get referred to specialist care for diabetes?

tiredandmoody · 11/07/2024 21:46

I forgot to say I also have a history of MRSA

Could be a cyst or boil, G.P asap! DM is highly prone to infections, takes ages to heal.

just to update, I woke up this morning and half of my boob has gone red and swollen, I’ve seen a GP and she said it’s a breast abscess that has burst (which is a good thing) and that I’ve got cellulitis - she’s put me on antibiotics and taken swabs for MRSA just because I’ve had it before, and said if I feel worse over the weekend or the redness continues to spread to go to A&E. just gonna draw around the redness now to keep an eye on it but glad I went!

Hope you're on the mend soon @tiredandmoody

I had this on one breast was put straight onto antibiotics because sepsis was a risk. Also told to go to A&E if it gets worse. I don't have diabetes either.
