I think it was about 2 years ago. It was big in the news for a few days and then suddenly radio silence.

The things I remember about it:

4 or 3 teenagers in a car think had gone out on a Saturday evening?

Missing for about 3 days

Police had looked to no avail

Member of public then spotted the car in a wooded area on a roundabout (?) all children had tragically passed away but if they'd had been found earlier they may have survived

Maybe South Wales?

I think about them often as my son and his cohort are all new drivers and I guess this is prevalent in my mind.

I hope the families of the children have found some settlement in their lives from the heartbreak and tragedy.

I remember it, v sad and tragic story

Thisisjustshite · 09/07/2024 23:05

Are you thinking of four teenage boys last year from Shrewsbury who died in North Wales? Their car was found in a ditch. They were on a camping trip.

Ioverslept · 09/07/2024 23:05

Yes I remember it, lots of stories go silent, maybe there is nothing to say, maybe the families want privacy.

JC03745 · 09/07/2024 23:05

It does vaguely ring a bell. A shame they didn't have a tracker in the car. But also odd they couldn't trace at least one of their phones. Terrible tragedy though.

MayComeInUsefulOneDay · 09/07/2024 23:05

I do wonder if it went very quite out of the media (no family statements that I can recall) because of prejudice in a court case but I can't see a crime commited, so I wouldn't imagine that's a correct surmisation.

I remember it. I think it was 4 teenage boys and the vehicle was submerged on it's roof. Absolutely heartbreaking for all the families. My son was learning to drive at the same time and I am still terrified when he goes out in the car.

BobbyBiscuits · 09/07/2024 23:06

I do remember that vividly. There was one kid that survived who was dropped home before the accident I think. Really tragic.
Drink and drug driving is so dangerous. RIP to the poor people involved.

No, sorry. This was another event.
I do remember the one you posted about.

I remember that one, was that last year? It wasn't that one, they were campers I think. Horrendously tragic as well 🥲

The one I'm trying to remember I'm sure the teenagers had gone out on a Saturday night? I think one or two were girls.

Sorry for the daily mail link but I presume you mean this case? The boys from Shrewsbury who crashed in north wales and found days later was more recent, and also tragic.

GabrielOakRose · 09/07/2024 23:09

Yes I remember it

Misty999 · 09/07/2024 23:10

This was in Cardiff the one girl survived, the car was covered by trees it was on a roundabout on a busy road

elliesmummy19 · 09/07/2024 23:10

Yes, I do. It was in Cardiff. I live very close and often visit the garden centre near the roundabout where the car was eventually found. I haven’t been round the roundabout recently but last time I was there was loads of banners, flowers etc still there. Very sad.

BreakfastAtMilliways · 09/07/2024 23:12

The one about the boys from Shrewsbury reduced me to tears. It didn’t help that one of the boys reminded me forcefully of my own DS who only passed his test last January.

We drive across Wales regularly and there are a lot of twisting, winding hillside roads on those routes that can be treacherous, even for experienced drivers, especially in bad weather.

cardibach · 09/07/2024 23:14

I drive along that road when I visit my daughter. It’s near Cardiff . It’s unbelievable they were there for days, really.
Not sure what you wanted to know though OP - it was all in the press at the time.

MayComeInUsefulOneDay · 09/07/2024 23:15

Thank you for the links, yes that was the accident.

I didn't recall there were survivors, and that one of the girls had lost her sister in a car accident a few years previously.

My heart goes out to the families.

A PP mentioned drink driving, there wasn't any reference to that in the article I saw, maybe just an accident. It also never clarified which one of the 5 was the driver.

Mama2many73 · 09/07/2024 23:17

Then one you are mentioning isn't the 4boys who were camping. It happened before that. I'm sure this is the one. Family and friends found them BEFORE the police

To ask if anyone remembers this news story?

It just goes through my mind a lot, really, I guess I was just thinking that if I could recall a few more details of it I'd be able to find closure from thinking of the awfulness of the tragedy.

I'm not entirely sure my thought process is correct though, Ive now given myself more details to think about. But it's nothing compared to Eve, Rafel and Darcy's families.

I hope Sophie and Shane can find some peace and are recovering well.

Don’t get into cars with people who are drinking and inhaling balloons. They could all see what the driver was doing.. it was just fortunate that no members of the public were killed.

Youremylobster86 · 10/07/2024 00:37

I'm from near the area the crash happened and stayed up throughout the night waiting for updates. Absolutely heartbreaking.

A girl and boy survived the crash, the boy went to prison for dangerous driving (he wasn't driving at the time of the crash but was earlier in the day.)

I can't see any info about the balloons in any of the articles I've read. Such a shame if that's the case 💔

I don't think there is any conspiracy in it going silent. They were trying to locate them as they were missing. They did locate them, but they were already dead. I seem to recall some discontent around 'why weren't they found sooner', but they were trying.
I've actually been finding how stories blow up massively these days a bit disgusting. Like the lad missing in Mallorca recently. The morning that story broke, radio 1 news were already up in his home town, trawling round his college, interviewing people who didn't even know him.
