to message them on Instagram to ask about their message which isnt there anymore

I am not great at using Instagram so was wondering if someone could advise me please.

I have been waiting to hear from a friend. We usually communicate on WhatsApp. Yesterday I had a notification that they had sent me a reel on Instagram but my notifications showed as 2 so I assumed there was also a message too. I was out with family yesterday so couldn't watch or reply but when I went on Instagram this morning my notifications had gone back down by 2 and there was no reel or message anymore.

Is it possible there has been a glitch and should I ask them about it or is it that they may have sent it in error and deleted it? I don't want to embarrass them if it's the latter nor do I want to ignore it if its the former.

You could say ‘did I see a reel/message from you? Sorry I didn’t get chance to click on it. Or was I imagining things?’ then no embarrassment as you haven’t seen it. But also not ignoring either.

Instagram can be glitchy sometimes!

Yeah that's a good idea. I have heard Instagram can be glitchy so I don't want to seem rude if they can still see it
