Hi all
Hoping for some advice from Muslim ladies please. Would this be ok for Mosque visit while on holiday (with headscarf obviously) wasn't sure BC of slot on the back. But I'm thinking headscarf should cover that?

Can you wear a thin t shirt underneath?. Not sure how.head scarf would cover all of your exposed skin? It's a lovely dress.

Itsrainingten · 07/07/2024 12:37

I'd rather not wear a t shirt underneath for heat reasons but I could wear a light chiffon scarf around my neck as well as a headscarf. Would that work?

Perfectly fine. I usually wear trousers/jeans with a longer sleeved top (one that covers my bum) and scarf. You don't need to wear black.
Remember you'll have to take your shoes off so you might want socks.

Itsrainingten · 07/07/2024 12:45

I actually was thinking of wearing a sort of dark taupe rather than black. The dress looks lovely in pale lime but I'm worried it might end up being a teensy bit see through so better safe than sorry.

Is it the neck bit that might be a problem? The back would be covered if I wore my headscarf "gypsy" style. So tight around my head and gathered on a sort of low ponytail at the back. But again I'm not sure if there's a specific way a headscarf should be worn. I guess "Virgin Mary" style would also cover my back but might fall off 😬

It should be fine, can I ask where it's from? It's a lovely dress.🙏

Kastri · 07/07/2024 13:37

Long sleeves would be better so arms are covered.

It depends on the mosque/country.

A few years ago I had an appropriate outfit for a visit in Abu Dhabi (I travel a lot in Muslim countries) but they still insisted I wear one of their rental abayas.

You'd be ok in that outfit in North Africa/Turkey but in the Middle East I'd make sure the back slit & your shoulders were covered or that you wore something underneath.

Thank you. It is Turkey. I see the point about the arms. It does cover the elbows down to sort of top of wrists. Not sure whether that's enough.
I have worn similar in North Cyprus and they were totally cool - in fact I saw people in much shorter than that to just below knee level. But I think Cypriots are a bit more relaxed about that sort of thing.

Such a pretty dress. I think it'll be absolutely fine if you're planning to wear the scarf with it as you described. I'm assuming you're going abroad as we certainly don't have any heat here! Where are you going? I'm just being nosy (and jealous!)

Crazycatlady79 · 07/07/2024 13:48

I love this dress. All I'd say is cover back and shoulders.

JWR · 07/07/2024 14:05

If it’s in a tourist area they will have cover ups they give you (for men and women) if they aren’t happy.

Thanks. Yes I know that. I'm just trying to avoid having to borrow something because it's going to be hot and wearing something someone else has recently sweated in is a bit gross 😂

So that dress with this hijab? That would work wouldn't it? I CBA with trying to pin a scarf so this one with a stretchy bit looks nice and easy to do. It's pretty expensive though so if anyone has a recommendation for a similar easy one that won't fall off but is cheaper than would be great. I don't think It's going to get much wear outside of this holiday. Although we have been thinking of going to Abu Dhabi some time so I guess I could wear it there too

Fine for Istanbul (went earlier this year and visited many a mosque).

HoneyButterPopcorn · 07/07/2024 15:09

Looks fine. I wore less to my Islamic wedding (that's a whole thread of a story there). With a headscarf. I looked like Hilda Ogden.

I almost got into a fight with the mullah too. MIL was most amused (she isn’t a fan of the clergy…)

That’s fine for Turkey and you don’t need to wear hijab, just a loose scarf over your hair will be fine
