Would I be unreasonable to complain to the council?

Hello looking for some advice live in a semi detached house in a relatively quiet area.

A neighbour on opposite side of street there is often motorbikes visiting and they are very loud. They dont visit during night but they are incredibly loud when they start reving their engines and driving off past my house which I find really annoying as I like quiet. The noise from at least one of them is the same noise as my TV when I am sitting in my living room.

Would I be unreasonable to make a noise complaint to the council?

What time of day is this, how often, and have you spoken to the neighbour about it?

Hermittrismegistus · 06/07/2024 22:37

YABU. I can't imagine the noise is lasting more than a few seconds.

SophieAnderson3957 · 06/07/2024 22:37

It's only happened between 9am to 7pm
not outside those hours
Happens at least weekly

They are a group of males and I live alone might not have the confidence to talk to them

@Hermittrismegistus honestly you are mostly right Id say 5-10 seconds I just really hate how loud it is I mean my car doesnt need to make that much noise I think its so annoying

Yes. They infrequently during reasonable hours start a motorbike. If you don't live on your own property with average, then noise isn't something you can control. The council will not be interested

SophieAnderson3957 · 06/07/2024 22:39

Fair enough ok Im being unreasonable

So they just drive off on the motorbikes once a week? I don't think the council will consider that excessive.

WelshNerd · 06/07/2024 22:42

It's hard to imagine that what you describe would be classed as a noise nuisance sufficient to issue an abatement notice.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 06/07/2024 22:43

You can't complain to the council about people using roadworthy vehicles that they're perfectly entitled to use.

sparkles79 · 06/07/2024 22:45

😂seriously get a grip! lots of love a female bike enthusiast!

TheShellBeach · 06/07/2024 22:45

What do you think the council will do?
Which department will you complain to, anyway?

coolkatt · 06/07/2024 22:57

It might not be enough to
Report to council but as someone who
Listens
To this every day too it's bloody annoying! It scares my
Kids and petrifies my cats.
It literally is only a few times a
Day but it's the worst noise ever so I'm with ya!
