It’s shocking to see it in a simple list. So much damage done. There is a reason why we’re all so fed up.

This is a great post. Thanks for sharing

sadly I think a lot of people vote according to whatever the social media echo chamber feeds them about emotive issues that bother them

So despite the fact of the last 14 years, many on here will junk a vote for Keir because of the trans issue.

Or others will junk any Labour vote because of “potential tax rises” (having swallowed the Tory attack lines whole)

So it doesn’t really matter for many about facts. Facts are great, but they are led by emotion, and our naturally Conservative voting country will see many shy Tories pop up later

US2gether · 04/07/2024 08:35

I agree appalling damage to the country.

They have increased the wealth of billionaires though and allowed sleeze and lies to increase. So many are blind to the damage though.

MattDamon · 04/07/2024 08:36

Would be good to see this fact checked by a UK news source.

I hate the Tories, except on Women's rights, but I have zero faith in American reporting atm.

New York Times is normally pretty good.

The reduction in crime isn’t a true statistic as it’s a case of less crime actually being reported vs true crime reduction

US2gether · 04/07/2024 08:46

The food bank need is so shameful. Were the Tories attempting to make us a third world country with growing need for food banks, poverty, homelessness? They were very successful at increasing all these things

Their reporting has been compromised by ideology for years now.

The trans thing feels disproportionate here on MN. Labour would stand to lose far more votes if they followed Tory’s lead on this one.

It has won the Pulitzer Prize for excellence in journalism more than any other organisation.

After reading your post op, there are still people on here who will vote tory as they think the tories are on women's side...they dont realise your post is about 50%women!

I'd trust them more than the UK media with their lies about bendy bananas and millions more for the NHS because of Brexit.

They have far fewer reasons to lie than the establishment owned UK media.

Polls detailing the important factors people take into account when voting never even register the TW issue. People care about the NHS, housing, the money in their pocket, poverty, employment. This issue so fiercely debated on MN doesn't even make the list.

Hilarious coming from a country with no health care, no maternity leave, no workers rights, almost no annual leave allowance.

The NY times can go to hell.

Which means nothing when you put ideology above facts.

You realise the NY Times isn’t the US Government?

LakeTiticaca · 04/07/2024 09:11

Perhaps the NYT should should concentrate a little more energy on the shit show that is The United States of America?

Perhaps if you read the NYT, you’d see they do that ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

Churchview · 04/07/2024 09:12

@LakeTiticaca Perhaps.
Doesn't make the list wrong and we can still concentrate on it whilst America concentrates on their shizzle.

They do.

However, with an international readership they also run stories about other countries.

Why does it bother you so much that they run on story on the UK, our broadsheets run stories about the US. Quite an extreme reaction from you.

Well this Government is trying to move us towards the US and even further away from the EU with its pesky rights for workers, sewage standards, health services etc.

Seriously, I’ve read stuff on their that is outright not true. One article was pushing that Germany had been spearheading support for Ukraine and was really effective. This was near the beginning of the war when they had just sent a bunch of helmets and Scholz was spending most of his time squirming and trying to avoid pissing off the Russians. It just wasn’t true. Their reports on Europe especially are a bit flawed.

I do enjoy it though and they have some great column writers so I still pay my sub.

Chickenuggetsticks · 04/07/2024 09:16

Tw I’m not saying the Conservatives haven’t done a shit job, it’s just that some of their reports are a bit meh.

EatTheGnome · 04/07/2024 09:19

More people employed but more people homeless and using food banks is not a good look.
