I actually went to a running shop this year, and was advised and properly fitted for trainers - I've never done that before; I've just ... you know, gone in a shop and bought some. I got a pair that were more than twice what I've ever paid in the past. They're comfortable and they do an excellent job ... but they are exactly that: a pair of hovercrafts. Pale pink hovercrafts, to be precise, as they didn't have a pair in a sensible low-key colour. I bloody hate them! Fugly is the exact word. (The stupid thing is that one of my neighbours stopped me and asked what brand they were ... and how much they cost. He seemed to be most impressed by them - I can't for the life of me think why.)
