What's with all the one post threads?

I know this has always happened but not to this level. Catching thread title, very interesting post and then the OP just disappears. Seems to be more and more of this, so what's going on?

There's a lot of shills and sock puppets in the political thread. I assume some of these OPTs are the next generation of AI sock puppets establishing credibility.

Is it some sort of AI? Or maybe people just aren't bothered coming back to their own threads?

iv started checking for all op’s posts first before I get invested enough to read through sometimes a lot of replies

The OPs have evidently got more interesting lives than me and get distracted and don't come back. I have no life and am constantly looking to see what people say.

Some people are just seeking vindication and a 99% YABU reaction doesn't entice them back. That's my guess.

MN is brutal sometimes and it's hard to face what some people say.

I've started a thread and just hidden it before as I couldn't deal with the responses.

There seems to be an influx of (what seems to be US based) creative writers. Though this takes me back to PenAndWank in days of yore.

Ive started making sarcastic comments on threads now due to this, along the lines of "oh look, OP hasnt come back." It's like they drop the opening post and then run off ... almost looks like baiting.

Some are trolls just looking to wind MN up and watch it go

Some are journalists or creative writers after a good story

And some are vulnerable women who can't face the pummelling they are taking and watch quietly. Many of these get pulled for "privacy reasons" I was on one just the other day. The OP didn't come back but the thread went.

Maybe it's that! There does seem to be a style about the posts.

Certainly loads of US posters with LONG ops. When they use American terminology/spelling but claim to be UK based I am immediately suspicious.

I haven't noticed it more than usual?
