To be annoyed with ExH?

ExH has picked the children up from school today, took them out for tea, and then dropped them off at my workplace.

He mentioned they were going into 'local town ' to pick up a perfume set dd2 had wanted for ages

This evening, they've arrived at my workplace, as arranged. Dd2 is delighted, she's got her perfume set. DD1 is sporting a Flannels bag, turns out he's just dropped £175 on trainers for her!!?

His reasoning? She's not had anything for ages.

I mean, it's his money to spend as he sees fit when he's with them, but she needs 2 new school skirts, a new blazer, and new school shoes before September!

Aibu to think he should actually ask what his children require before dropping that kind of money on trainers?

And who speaks £175 on trainers anyway?

Yabu. He's your ex so you no longer have a say in what he spends his money on. Be glad it's on his dc.

Ereyraa · 27/06/2024 22:41

Yabu. It’s not up to you what he spends his money on.

If you want money for new school uniform then ask??

He can spend his money on what he wants. And if he'd brought one DD something without the other then you'd probably be moaning about that too

£175 for named trainers isn't that bad

Will he be contributing to the things the kids need for school? If so then yes, YABU. And vice versa.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/06/2024 23:14

Surprised at the replies! Yes it’s his money but as a responsible father, he shouldn’t be spending it on trainers and then saying he can’t afford the things that are necessary. And it’s not OP’s responsibility to find all the boring, necessary items whilst exh gets to buy the fun luxuries.

EatTheGnome · 27/06/2024 23:16

Yanbu if he is not contributing to school uniform.

Not fair to claim the fun and glamour of buying new trainers amd letting you buy the boring but essential uniform.

NotYouAgain · 28/06/2024 07:50

He pays maintenance, but doesn't contribute anything extra, apart from occasional extravagant gifts like above
