To think there is no risk of cross contamination

Today I bought a packet of sealed chicken breast fillets. I was in a rush when putting the shopping away and put them on the bottom shelf of the fridge as always. There was also an opened punnet of strawberries and blueberries sitting on the same shelf of the fridge, but not touching the chicken packet.

I’ve been told I should have moved the fruit before putting the chicken down as now the fruit will need to be thrown away…. Why? It’s in a different packet, the packets weren’t touching and the raw chicken fillets were sealed. Literally just sharing a shelf. How is it different from having it in your shopping basket or trolley together?

YABU - I wouldn’t be eating the berries and agree you should throw them away
YANBU - Of course they’re fine! Zero risk to anyone 🙄

“I’ve been told”

By whom? Who is so influential to you despite spouting absolute nonsense that you question yourself?

Family member currently staying. Don’t want to say who as obviously it’s outing as it is

I would wash the berries anyway so it wouldn't matter.

I don’t think saying would make it any more outing! But it doesn’t matter - the more important part of my question you didn’t answer. Why does she have such an influence that you don’t just ignore her?

Really? They're also on here?

(Why are there so many posts about contaminated chicken packets at the moment?)
