Next doors gardener.

I'm tired, hot and grumpy, trying to work in a small box room with the sun on it.

Next door's gardener is in. He's cut the grass, absolutely fine, the noise of the lawnmower didn't bother me at all, but now he's singing, very badly, at the top of his voice.

It's lovely, I suppose, that someone's enjoying their work, but....

Leave him be, it’s only sunny whilst he works once in a blue moon. It’ll rain again next week.

Blouson · 26/06/2024 14:52

make it a duet

Moveoverdarlin · 26/06/2024 14:54

This would make me smile not moan. There’s so many miserable sods out there and you’re moaning about a gardener singing while he works on a beautiful sunny day. This is almost as bad as the poster the other week who complained about hearing church bells on a Sunday morning.

Blouson · 26/06/2024 14:56

whats he singing?

Churchview · 26/06/2024 15:00

You're moaning about how hot it is just sitting in a room.
He's doing physical work in the blazing sun.
You could always take him out a cold drink.

tootyflooty · 26/06/2024 15:01

open the window and sing along, it will make him smile 😂

Allfur · 26/06/2024 15:02

It's a bit self centred of him i agree

piningforautumn · 26/06/2024 15:03

YANBU to be annoyed. Singing loudly is not polite on the job at a client's home. A little humming or soft singing should be sufficient to express your joy, surely. 😅

I wouldn't say anything unless he's out there doing it every day, but I'd wish he'd stop.

As someone who works in horticulture, I'm going to echo this. It is extremely difficult to work in these conditions and stay healthy. At least the poor chap isn't working in a greenhouse though - was over 40 degrees C in ours yesterday

19lottie82 · 26/06/2024 15:06

I always think if someone is singing that means they’re happy, so leave the poor man be 😂

piningforautumn · 26/06/2024 15:06

Also, he must not be working at top pace if he still has the breath for singing at the top of his voice!

olderbutwiser · 26/06/2024 15:08

He knows you are in there and is deliberately trying to catch your attention, as he has admired you from afar for ever. He is hoping you will lean out of the window and sing a duet/let down your hair/flash your tits/invite him to take a look at your bush. If you look closely you will realise he is Diet Coke man from the '80s sexist ads, or Gabrielle's shockingly young gardener from Season 1 of Desperate Housewives whose name I can't remember.

It’s gardening not the London Marathon. What a stupid comment.

mondaytosunday · 26/06/2024 15:09

@piningforautumn what's he doing? Trimming, weeding, planting, bit of digging - I could sing (though it would make your ears bleed do I would refrain).
Railway workers laying track back in the day had lots of songs to keep them going! That was fairly backbreaking work.

I worked as a gardener before I retired @Harrysmummy246.

People used to say to me 'Your kind of work must be lovely in the hot weather' and I used to think, nah, give me a cool breeze and light drizzle any day.

As long as he's not The Lawnmower Man, in which case your internet is about to go down.

This- I am working as a horticulturist in this. If it is helping him get through extremely tough working conditions let him sing

It is not possible to work in an outdoor physical job at top pace in these conditions

Harrysmummy246 · 26/06/2024 17:31

Yeah amazing how many people want to do my job when the sun is shining @Churchview but nobody is remotely interested the other 10 months of the year

TonTonMacoute · 26/06/2024 17:33

We recently had builders in for months working on our house. I rather enjoyed hearing them whistling and singing along to the radio, and actually quite miss it now they've finished.
