What should a (6M) baby wear in this heat?

Hello,

This may sound silly and I've posted on here for traffic but I'm not entirely sure what my baby should be wearing in this heat?

Should she just wear a vest or a vest with a short sleeve romper? I'm paranoid she'll be too hot in the romper but too cold in the vest?

The temperature is 28 degrees.

Thanks.

Nappy only or nappy & vest - they can't regulate their body temps at that age so best to keep them cool. You can always add layers if baby feels cool.

My twins are 6m old during a heatwave. Shortie rompers, vests or just their nappies some days.

loose cotton romper and hat.Where possible nappy off.

Nappy and vest- ideally cotton. Baby will be more comfortable clothed in a vest than not, as a cotton vest will wick away moisture stopping the clammy feeling and allow air to flow. Mine used to have little cotton romper suits.

One layer of thin, loose breathable short/sleeveless natural fibres such a cotton or linen. Stay in shade, wear hat and sunscreen if out and about, plenty of water.

Thank you everyone.

What about at night? As it can get a little cooler as the night progresses. Is a romper okay with a vest and a nappy? x

At 28 degrees, I’d just put a 6 month old in a either just a nappy or nappy and vest or nappy and short romper.

Presuming it’s similar temperatures at night I’d put to bed in a short sleeved vest and 0.5 or 1 tog sleeping bag.

I have a 3.5 year old and a 15 month old. Today my 15 month old has either been in a short romper or just a vest. He’s gone to bed in a short sleeved vest and a 0.5 tog sleeping bag. Last summer when he was 4-6 month over summer he wore similar or just a nappy.

My 5 month old has been in a short sleeve vest all day with some baggy shorts which I eventually took off. Now it’s bed time he’s in a short sleeve vest and light sleeping bag.

Check what the material says because something that’s 100% cotton should be okay, but sometimes they do cotton mixes or polyester mixes and those will get very hot I don’t understand why they make summer clothes out of plastic fibre as they cause me to get very hot and sweaty

ForFirmBiscuit · 25/06/2024 00:53

That reminds me, you should be putting suncream on them every 2 hours and keeping them inside at the hottest parts of the day may be a sun hat and covering them up in cotton clothes so they don’t get burned
