How often do you ask for CMS to be raised?

If you don’t go through them direct and arrange it between yourselves?

I get the same now as I did 6 years ago but I have no idea if he’s on anymore money.

Where do they work? Are they likely to have had a pay rise?

Prettypengu · 21/06/2024 22:38

Self employed in a trade so god knows

Are CMS involved at all as you've mentioned them or is this completely between you two?

For me CMS review it once a year on the anniversary of opening the account and he just amends the standing order, so I think yearly would be fair and you could use their calculator to work out what it should be

Is it likely to cause issues though? I like going through CMS as it puts a middle 'man' to diffuse any poor feeling.

CassandraWebb · 21/06/2024 22:40

Are CMS involved? They review it every year for me, pretty sure exH gets paid a fair amount cash in hand though!

Starlightstarbright3 · 21/06/2024 22:43

I am guessing it is private agreement . I would certainly ask if it’s been 6 years however we all know Self employed as notoriously difficult to get the right amount

Prettypengu · 21/06/2024 22:44

Sorry I didn’t write it very clear.

CMS are not involved. They were at the very beginning but I used to get £10 a week so when he offered more I agreed and left the CMS. It’s a agreement through us as he’s self employed. I know it’s easier to hide your income.

Yes it will probably cause an issue. Hence I’m unsure to even ask.

Honestly, if you can manage on what you are receiving I'd leave it at that.

He should pay you a fair amount, and it's not fair andit is holding him to a low bar but if the chances are he hides more money etc and you get less I'd stick with what I get. Obviously if you are struggling to put food on the table then I'd pursue it

CountryMumof4 · 21/06/2024 23:37

I guess it depends on what percentage of your dc's costs the CMS covers and how often he has them.

Prettypengu · 21/06/2024 23:39

He has our 1 DC every other weekend for 1 night and I get £45 a week.

OP posts:
CountryMumof4 · 21/06/2024 23:44

Thank you. So that's only £2340 a year. Presumably you're paying more than that in a year (as in the same amount from you, plus extra) to keep them fed, clothed, extra activities etc. Given how the prices of everything have increased this last few years, I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for more. Or, rather than money, ask him to get specific things like shoes/clothes etc.

Prettypengu · 22/06/2024 01:05

He would never get the items or if he did it was be way too long before he bothered getting them

andfinallyhereweare · 22/06/2024 06:25

What trade is he? If he is a plumber or sparkie he’s probably on good money. 45 a week wouldn’t even touch the sides! Depends how much trouble asking is going to cause you…

Prettypengu · 22/06/2024 07:14

He’s one of those two

OP posts:
andfinallyhereweare · 22/06/2024 07:27

Ok so average wage for one of those would be minimum 70 an hour so if he works full time I’m sure he can afford more than 180 a month

Prettypengu · 23/06/2024 13:49

Iv asked and he’s said no so I guess that’s a no! Eughp
