… spoiler alert, it’s a takeaway not a person

Used to eat at our favourite takeaway every single week, sometimes we’d buy from there twice a week. 2 weeks ago we found metal in the food. They tried to brush it off as cleaning scourer fibres that had been residual in the wok but there was quite a lot and I’m not totally convinced on their reasoning. Even if so I don’t know why they wouldn’t have rinsed it. The food is amazing, they have 5 star food hygiene… but honestly if I’d not been looking more closely any one of us could have eaten it.

We’ve tried numerous others over the years and the food doesn’t come close

Would you order from there again or would you swerve them?

YABU - order again, it’ll have been a one off
YANBU - wouldn’t be getting my custom, not hard to keep metal out of food

They did offer us a free meal but I just don’t know if I can bring myself to or if worrying about it happening again would get in the way of enjoying it

If it only happened once and they have a decent hygiene rating with the council, I'd happily keep ordering from them.

Probably not to be honest I’d never be able to relax with food from there without wanting to pick through it first so the enjoyment would be gone and the point of the takeaway void.

I can’t think of a good reason for that much metal; best case they aren’t cleaning and it’s what they say it is, worst case I don’t even want to guess why.

That’s what I’m thinking

I'd use the free meal as a decider. Give them one more chance if your other previous meals have been fine.

TenderChicken · 21/06/2024 16:44

I think because you have ordered from them extensively already without issue I would keep using them, particularly as their food is so much tastier than the others!

This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine, with the identical excuse used. Except she didn't notice the metal fibres until one or two bites in to her meal one got stuck in her throat and she started panicking/choking. Fortunately, her DH was there and he managed to get it out, but the episode scared the life out of her. The restaurant were very dismissive and nonchalant, but did offer a free meal as compensation. Needless to say, they didn't take them up on the offer and haven't been back.

I placed an order on Uber Eats in March for over £100. There was a screw in a chicken kebab. Sent a photo to Uber Eats and they said I could contact the restaurant. UE did nothing about it not even a proper apology. One of us could have swallowed it or broken a tooth.
