Can't find fresh fruit and veg in Tesco!

Currently trying to do an online order, my first for ages. They apparently have no strawberries (except Finest, but I can't afford to pay the extortionate extra on the price), no peaches/nectarines ditto, and apparently no celery of any kind!

These are not really exotic ingredients are they? What is going on? Has anyone else found this? Is it just Tesco or what?

I consistently find my local Asda has run out of several types of fruit and veg.

CrappyJob · 17/06/2024 20:43

It's because you are doing it late on. The availability is based on what is currently in the store you are ordering from. So if things sell out through the day, but are coming in early the next day, you can't order them. The system could be better ...

I bought some British strawberries from Lidl on Saturday- had to pick through the ones that weren't bashed and soggy. They're usually really nice.

Plenty of reduced bagged salad!

Wrong thread, I suspect.

Thanks, maybe it's that then? So if I'd ordered yesterday morning (it's not coming til tomorrow evening), I could have ordered stuff like that?

Doesn't really seem to make a lot of sense.

It's definitely worth amending your order tomorrow to see if you can add the items you can't get tonight. I can't guarantee that you'll get them, but there is a reasonable chance.

Oh hold on, you might not be able to amend it tomorrow.

Plenty of both in Sainsburys, Lidl, Waitrose and non branded fruit/veg shops in south London.

Circlingthesun · 17/06/2024 21:23

Have the same problem at my local Tesco too, fruit is particularly an issue. Been getting worse over the past 6 months.

Spoke to customer services who say it's the night staff not unloading Lorrie's/ out the back during their shift.

Opinionwontchangeluv · 17/06/2024 21:25

If you have one near go to a Turkish shop their fruit and veg is always better

AlltheFs · 17/06/2024 21:28

It’s the weather. The supply chains are struggling with a lot of produce. Yields are quite frankly fucked on a lot of things this year.

Churchview · 17/06/2024 21:32

The quality of fruit and veg in my South West town's Sainsbury's has gone down hill terribly in the last 18 months....lots of shortages and poor quality.

It's June in the UK and the only spring onions they had today looked ropey and had been flown in from Senegal. Something is going on.

This. We have an allotment and the constant rain has brought out tons of slugs and they have eaten just about everything.
If we can't grow things, neither can the farmers.

ForFirmBiscuit · 17/06/2024 21:33

No Asda was doing a deal on strawberries so they all got bought

poolemoney · 17/06/2024 21:36

Tesco is great for strawberries right now. Big and juicy and £1.90 a punnet. Much better than Waitrose strawbs.

Floralnomad · 17/06/2024 21:38

Our local Tesco always has plenty of fruit / veg / salad but if we order online it comes from a packing warehouse not a shop .

I'm not sure if they have more picking warehouses now, they used to be just in London and Glasgow. Most deliveries still get picked instore.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 17/06/2024 21:45

The Waitrose near me didn't have a single packet of strawberries this weekend also all the apples I bought were mushy. Tesco and ocado seem better.

We stayed at a wheat farmer’s air b n b at Easter and they said they hadn’t been able to plant as their fields were still waterlogged.

I had Finest strawbs in my order this week but none arrived. Ditto carrots. Veg has been odd for weeks now.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/06/2024 00:22

Shop mostly at Aldi, no issues there.

Online orders for delivery come from a warehouse. So local store availability is irrelevant. If it's a click and collect it comes from the local store.

Some come from a warehouse. Most don't.
