To get a cleaner in a one bedroom flat?

I’d like to pay someone to come in for maybe 2 hours a week to do a clean of the kitchen and bathroom, dust all surfaces, and iron 8 shirts for work.

AIBU to do this? DP tells me it’s a waste of money. I do 70% of this work.

If you are both paying for it, of course it's a waste of dp's money, he's getting the labour for free currently.

Why not,if you can afford it and it makes life easier 🙂

It doesn't matter how big your house is if you both want a cleaner.

If one of you didn't work and the other didn't agree to a cleaner I'd possibly think that was fair enough but depends on circumstances.

Tell DP he's not pulling his weight so you're getting a cleaner.

ButterCrackers · 16/06/2024 20:10

What is the 30% that your dp does? Perhaps you could swap and he does what you do and you do his 30% jobs? Seeing he doesn’t want a cleaner he should be fine about this

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/06/2024 20:10

In my experience, the only people who oppose getting a cleaner are those who are not currently doing much cleaning. It's always worth it if you can afford it.

Either you both pay a cleaner or your husband takes on these chores. If he doesn't do the chores, then you're getting a cleaner. Only choice I would be giving.

PurpleBugz · 16/06/2024 20:12

Tell your oh to do the work then because you won't be doing it anymore. If he doesn't want to do it get the cleaner. He says it's a waste of money because currently he's getting that labour from you for free

I'm an ex professional cleaner and I have had clients with one bedroom flats. You can really achieve a lot in two hours and I've been told its fantastic to come home to a clean flat and that it makes the week ahead so much easier. Go for it, you deserve it!
