AIBU To leave the toilet seat down?

Just a lighthearted one for a Sunday evening.

Probably won’t gain momentum as not controversial but here we go…

I’m used to the toilet seat (not lid) being down in my house with whoever I have lived with (or shared a house on holiday etc). My DP of a while occasionally leaves my toilet seat up which I’ve noticed but I’m not too bothered about.

His house is all male so it tends to be up when I find it. It’s occurred to me that if I would prefer him to leave mine down then maybe he’d prefer it if I left his up.

I doubt it’s even crossed his mind but I was just idly wondering if there was any toilet etiquette!

YABU - you should return the toilet seat to its up position at his house.

YANBU - you can leave the toilet seat down after use at his house

I appreciate the third option is who actually cares as there’s a lot more important things to think about but I was just wondering if anyone had any strong views on this.

The seat should be left down with the lid down. The original purpose is to prevent rats coming into the property via the pipe.

I don't understand boys and toilet seats.

Genuinely.

The amount of extra space you get by lifting the seat is like, an inch. And if your aim is so bad that an inch causes a problem, are we just saying it's accepted to piss on the porcelain? Men are gross. Seats need to stay down. I need to stay single.

The whole of the lid should be down.
If you flush with the lid open you risk the spread of spraying poo particles everywhere.
Also apparently lid up is bad feng shui - drains positive energy out of the house.
So YA all BU. Hope that helps Grin

I live with 3 males. The seat (and lid) is always down when they leave it as it is when I do. I'd do the same wherever I was, as do they.

Not sure how to vote on that basis!

Interesting. I do flush with the lid all down re spray etc but then I lift it up ready for next use. I’ve never thought about things coming up but I’m guessing that’s very rare.

My rule of thumb is to leave the seat however I find it. I.e. if it's up and I put it down, then I put it up again after I've used it.

My logic if living in a mixed sex house is that women always have the seat down and men also poo some sometimes have the seat down - therefore the majority position is down.

We all have our own ensuites in our house so we just have our own loos as we like them.

The seat and lid are there to stop the fine mist droplets that are created when the toilet is flushed from spreading across the whole bathroom.

i watched a documentary years ago where they showed you the results after using something that reacted to a black light and it was disgusting. Everything within a metre or more was covered including toothbrushes and towels etc
it was horrible 🤢

I always close the lid and i keep my toothbrush in my bathroom cabinet now!

as for your question i follow the rules of the person whose house im in so if it’s up I close the lid to flush then open it again.
my house is seat and lid down luckily for me everyone is happy with that.
