I’m having people over at 3pm and yesterday cooked a ham joint so we can have sandwiches. However, I left it in foil on the bench last night and didn’t put it in the fridge. Will it be okay or do I need to cook another one?

YABU - cook another one asap
YANBU - it’ll be fine

It will be fine.

Hoppinggreen · 16/06/2024 11:33

I would

Yes it's fine unless you're kitchen is like a constant 30c or something

CJ0374 · 16/06/2024 11:35

I'd eat it if it smelt ok. You could always slice and fry/heat it through to be extra cautious.

Theunamedcat · 16/06/2024 11:36

In this weather? It will be fine

Kago2790 · 16/06/2024 11:37

Yes.

Meat like ham, sausages, bacon exist because they last longer than fresh meat ( from the days of before fridges)

Tattletwat · 16/06/2024 12:10

It will be fine it's not that warm.

I mean how much does it cost ?

Probability that you will poison them is low. Maybe a few % ?

But if the consequences of that are major (are they the kind of people who would go on about it forever, or maybe they are people you want to keep on good terms with) then maybe it is not worth the risk and just shell out a few quid for some replacement ?

I always think this way about dodgy food that I have left out. Probability it will kill me is low, but the cost of replacement is not so much and certainly worth not having to shove my head down a toilet bowl throwing up for 2 days. I would rather throw £5 of food away than take a 10% chance of getting some horrible disease.

No, meat shouldn't get above 8°c. Once it was cooked it needed to cool to below that, this never will have. The core especially.
