I’m so SICK of them!!!

I went to a pub quiz with 4 friends the other day. During the rounds you are not allowed your phones.
On every single break, 3 of my friends instantly reached for their phones the second they could. 2 of them spent the break mindlessly scrolling, and 1 of them sat and played candy crush.
Myself and one other friend just sat there like “okay then” and we chatted away.

I then went out for lunch with a friend today. She was scrolling when waiting for the food to come. I looked to my left and there was also a couple, sitting in silence, both scrolling.
When our food came, my friend took a picture of our food and then sat posting it.

I am just so so so so so sick of phones and social media and in some ways I wish it didn’t exist!!!

You need better friends

Allfur · 15/06/2024 18:19

I agree, when people check them, start scrolling or answer mid conversation, it is annoying

Topseyt123 · 15/06/2024 18:23

I think it is rude to just sit scrolling when out with friends, and photographing food as it arrives is just weird.

I'm not anti mobile phones or devices though. If I am on my own I will often sit scrolling. Even with DH, we might sometimes just like to sit quietly just reading, either book, kindle or phone.

Yes. I totally agree. I am a teacher. The kids are, mostly, addicted to them. So are most of the teachers. I have seen teachers on their phones at really inapprioriate times. Parents too. I have had parents on the phone during parent-teacher evening discussions and during presentations, to name a couple of occasions. I take public transport and 95% are on their phones.

I am just as bad. Utterly dependant (hopefully one level below proper addiction). And they are designed to capture your constant attention. That's why I hate them. I am not judging people for being on them all the time (well, only a little bit!). But I hate them for how they control us.

When in a cafe on my own ill use tab/laptop but i can understand your frustration @PurblePlace

whatevss · 15/06/2024 18:36

No one I know does this.

OhHelloMiss · 15/06/2024 18:39

I work in an environment where phones are forbidden. Not allowed to take them in. It's lovely!

HAF1119 · 15/06/2024 18:42

Oh god.. I'm a nightmare I always say something if someone I'm in company with does this.. 'am I boring you?' Generally 🤣

rewilded · 15/06/2024 18:44

I think most people are pretty addicted to their phones now - me included. We are pretty much doomed!

I have resisted but it is almost impossible. Although I wouldn't go on my phone at a restaurant etc.

PoopingAllTheWay · 15/06/2024 18:45

The phones arent the problem
Its the People

Deeperthantheocean · 15/06/2024 20:21

I'm used to not being able to check my phone at work, only in breaks., so the same when I'm.out with friends. Phone is away and I have a check when I go to the loo. This is just for any calls if needed for any emergency, not a scroll. Xx

PoopingAllTheWay · 15/06/2024 20:53

Its just rude

tennesseewhiskey1 · 15/06/2024 20:54

Find new friends then. 🤷🏽‍♀️

SilentSilhouette · 15/06/2024 20:56

My DH even scrolls through his phone whilst we are watching TV! So dull!

I've recently been on a school trip where phones were banned and the teenagers had an amazing week!

Phones turn people into bores!

(Only on my phone as cooking dinner and dh has disappeared to watch TV!)

MartinsSpareCalculator · 15/06/2024 21:15

They get on my bastard nerves. People are losing the ability to actually socialise and interact with those around them because every fucker is too engrossed in their phones.

findingmoi · 16/06/2024 06:52

How old are you? Who sits scrolling when out for lunch was my first thought...

MadameMassiveSalad · 16/06/2024 07:35

Yep.
