To be worried about water intoxication

waterwaterwaterwater · 15/06/2024 11:32

I’ve just stupidly had two pint glasses of water back to back without even thinking. That’s obviously more than a litre. I’m worried I’ve had a dangerous amount. Should I call 111? Please be kind! Early pregnancy and worried about all sorts :-)

You'll be fine

OrangeSlices998 · 15/06/2024 11:33

You’d need to drink 4x that in a short space of time to be concerned. Eat a salty snack!

TinySaltLick · 15/06/2024 11:34

I think that is commonly known as thirsty

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/06/2024 11:34

You be fine.

GrumpyOldCrone · 15/06/2024 11:35

I think it’s unlikely to have any adverse effects if it was just two pints. Is there a reason why you were so thirsty? I would struggle to drink that much all at once, and I take medication that makes me thirsty. But maybe you’d just forgotten to drink water earlier in the day?

MartyFunkhouser · 15/06/2024 11:35

Oh my days.

You’ll be fine.

Isittimeformynapyet · 15/06/2024 11:36

Don't be silly OP.

I hope I've reassured you.

SusanSHelit · 15/06/2024 11:36

I do this probably 2/3 times a week after a 12 hour shift in work where I come home with my tongue sticking to my mouth I'm so thirsty. So like a pp said, it's just thirst. You'll be fine. Eat some crisps if you're really worried

nocoolnamesleft · 15/06/2024 11:38

1)That's fine.
2)Do you normally suffer from health anxiety?

WantToMakeWorldSilkySmooth · 15/06/2024 11:51

Isn't water intoxication a long term issue?
Because i get in 1l in a morning like you just did and my body is fine...
Iirc it's like 10+ liters a day for longer period which will cause issue.

StikItToTheMan · 15/06/2024 11:57

I often start the day by downing two massive glasses of water. It's totally fine.

Like a pp said, you'd probably need to drink 3 or 4 times that in one go OR drink much more than a litre of water every single hour for a few hours before you'd feel unwell.

Carebearsonmybed · 15/06/2024 11:58

Go to the gp but about health anxiety not water consumption

BadgeringBastard · 15/06/2024 11:59

OP you’re not the one who weed on bleach in the toilet last week are you?

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 15/06/2024 12:10

I do that after an afternoon's gardening. You'll be fine.

WeeOrcadian · 15/06/2024 12:15

OP, kindly, you're overreacting

It sounds like you have anxiety, possibly health or pregnancy related

Please raise this with your midwife, this isn't normal

festivallove · 15/06/2024 12:17

FFS
Look around at the state of our world atm OP

Bumblebeeinatree · 15/06/2024 12:19

Think how many pints of beer some men drink in an evening? Two pints of water should be fine.

Excuse moi.
Women can also put away some solid number of pints😂

sarahc336 · 15/06/2024 12:38

2 glasses is fine, maybe if you had 8-10 pints back to back but 2 is just thirsty 😁

Can't do more than two these days. Age has turned me into a total lightweight.

MonsteraMama · 15/06/2024 13:39

Hey OP, hoping I can reassure you by telling you I was hospitalised with water toxicity a few years ago and it took a whole fuck load more water than two pints! I drink two pints every morning just to get my brain working.

I had an infected wisdom tooth and the only thing that relieved the pain was having a mouthful of water. Because I also had to function like a normal adult I was constantly swallowing and "refilling" that water, which resulted in me inadvertently drinking 14+ litres a day. I didn't know water toxicity was a thing - now I do. It took 14+ litres a day for five days straight for water toxicity to set in.

In short, necking two pints (of water!!) on one occasion will do you and baby absolutely no harm at all, just don't do it every hour for days!
