Swim up pool etiquette

Currently on holiday in a swim up room. Whenever we have been in a swim up on previous occasions, people have mostly kept to "their" section - meaning the section directly in front of their room.

There might be the odd person doing a few laps, kids might stray in to the bit in front of your room, but people have tended to stay in the section in front of their room for the most part.

On this occasion, we are in an end room which has a sort of bench at the end of the pool. Consequently, people from the other rooms are constantly sitting in the area directly outside of our terrace, swimming in that specific section, and making it a bit uncomfortable when looking for a little bit of privacy and quiet.

Is this normal, and we have always just been lucky on previous occasions? Or is it a bit rude?

If its a communal bench then it's just unfortunate room position.

Can you ask at reception to see if you can move to another if there is that option? We nearly got one on our last holiday but I was glad we didn't for this reason as lots of people using the main part were actually swimming up and looking inside the rooms!

I don’t think it’s rude if it’s a bench for everyone to use, it’s just unfortunate that your room is there.

It's a bit of crap and unfortunate planning regarding your room. It's not rude of people to use the bench. You just happened to draw the short straw in the arrangement.
This would annoy me as well but I doubt there's anything you can reasonably do about it if all the other rooms are full.

Talk to the hotel about this. Perhaps another room will be free.
