Job dilemma

Hi Mumsnetters,

Would appreciate your advice on this one. Hate current job - new boss has made life a misery, so really need to leave for my own wellbeing.

Have been focusing hard on the job search and got offered a new role just over a week ago. They have been honest and explained that their jobs have to go through various sign offs and that any offer letter or contract is going to take a few weeks. This is my first choice job. They’ve been keeping in contact with me, so I do feel that everything is genuine.

Today, I got offered a role for a second job (which I would very much love to do if the first job doesn’t come off, but really want the first job). I’ve explained I have a job offer and that I need some time to consider. They've given me until next Tues to give a decision.

I have contacted Job 1 and asked if we can have the contract sorted by next week as I have another offer that I don’t want to lose. They are really trying to do this for me, but I don’t want to lose the offer for job 2.

Equally don’t want to carry on with this too long, as mindful it’s messing people around. It’s a lovely problem to have I appreciate but I’m a bit stuck. Any advice would be very welcome please.

Thanks

I would accept job 2 if job 1 don’t sort it before Monday afternoon.

There is no good reason for them to string you along like this and they don’t deserve you.

How big is the industry? If you accepted job 2 then got offered job 1 would you be prepared to screw them over and take 1?

Thanks both. That makes sense about Job 2. I might get away with it, but would feel so awful as they are such a lovely team.
